The portable WiFi hotspot keeps turning off after 2 seconds when I turn it on. How to resolve please?
Yes I do have my data switched on and the hotspot settings look ok.
Could another app be disabling the hotspot? Another user* found that BBC iPlayer and iPlayer Radio were doing that. I don't have enough either installed though.

It then turns it off after 2 secs

Ah - I unintalled the app 'Sensors Multitool' (Google Play app) and that resolved the problem. So there's that plus the Lookout app's Wifi security feature that cause this problem.

Start troubleshooting by restarting your phone into safe mode, this will disable all installed 3rd party apps. If the problem is resolved then one of your installed apps is causing this issue and you have to figure out which one. Start by uninstalling those apps you installed recently.

I did that, thanks. I did it with an IT technician, and he had the brain-wave that it may be a security app that was causing the problem. And it was - it was Lookout Mobile Security's app feature of 'Safe Wi-Fi: to detect unsafe wi-fi networks' (Highly ironic that it was preventing a pefectly safe one..!)
So, problem solved now thankfully.

Oh no, it's doing it again and this time it isn't Lookout's wifi security feature. Anyone got any ideas? I use AVG too but it doesn't seem to be able if its settings. I've booted in safe mode and the problem doesn't occur then.

I know this is marked as solved but that solution didn't apply to me as there was no app that was causing the hotspot to turn off automatically.
I eventually had to do a full software re-install using Xperia Companion and the issue is now resolved, however be aware that your phone will be wiped unless you back up first.
I hope this helps someone else.
