Device memory full in xperia L

Device memory full in xperia L

Hi.

I have a problem with my xperia L. Device memory gets full with normal usage after a couple of weeks. After it gets full, the phone is almost impossible to use; album doesn't work, new updates will not install, phone resets itself, cannot install new programs.. ETC. The only way out is, in my opinion, to make a "factory reset". But this is not how it should go with a mobile phone..

I am completely sure that this is somekind of a software bug, because my work mate is having exactly same symptoms with his phone and some other users have complained this in this forum with other words. For example:

http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/140571

http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/144006

http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/141173

Somebody explained that this is because the album app is somehow broken, other explanation would be that the phone doesn't know how to refresh the temp files...

Now I have some questions for Sony:

1. Do you recognize this problem?

2. How are you going to tackle it and what is the schedule?

3. Also, when tackling this problem, will you repair the camera software too?

Then, I would like to know if there are other users having the same problem.. By the way, the system version is 15.0.A.1.31

guys,
As some users stated previously,
The problem is not some specific apps,
it is problem of crashed apps, that is, if some apps gets crashed it is creating a core dump file in device memory in the data/core and data/crash folders which decreases the device memory

for example if chrome crashes
the memory of core dump file will be around 100mb.

if walkman or album crashes the size is about 60mb...

like that .. confirmed by users who rooted their phone and accessed the data/core folder..
and by deleting the files they solved the issue..

so Dont use all apps at same time..

don't use chrome for browsing heavy pages or multiple tabs which will cause chrome to crash, or don't use chrome at all(like me,I m using opera mini or opera)

don't use app cache cleaners or memory boosters which force closes certain apps
causing them to crash..

Ok, thats much more clear.

Btw,gallery thumbnails are created in the internal storage(4.01gb) ,Not device memory(1.57gb) so clearing that with clean master app has nothing to do with device memory..it only frees internal storage

Well, at last Sony answered me, and lol, what I expected. They say that I might use the update-service software to update my mobile. I see they don´t recognise any mistake. I see, to root the mobile is aproaching.

On the other hand it passed two days and I haven´t lost any memory, just i uninstalled two days ago a lot of aplications which came with mobile like all this multimedia by sony for watching films and download music (paying of course) and some more that now I can´t  remember their names, I sent everything is possible to internal sd memory, besides I stop using Chrome and started to use exclusevely Firefox.

When i was doing so I realize another thing, when you transfer the aplications if you want to recover the space in the memory is necesary to clean caché memory, I´m using clean master to do it, if you don´t, then this space is lost and not recovered by any other way, so when you download an app and it´s install you need to transfer and after that to clean caché memory. I have the feeling that if you´re using aplications installed in sd internal memory nothing wrong happens but I must say too that I´ve never installed spotify which seems critical for you as I read in the forum.

Just read on xda that xperia L will get the 4.2 in mid november. Dont know if this is really confirmed from Sony but it brings a little hope that this issue will be fixed in the update, hope so...

Hi all,

Last saturday my patience is over, I was tired of looking at this forum with the hope that the next post would be a real solution from Sony. I was always using the phone being very careful on some things to prevent memory loss . That was not normal , it is assumed that the phone is to make your life easier, and I was always trying to make easier device´s life.

I finally did root , and I can confirm that the memory leak is fixed by deleting the files in  "data / core" and "data / crash". At least for now, the phone seems to work well and have not found any problem to be root.

I do not mind losing the warranty, because seeing what has happened here, I have serious doubts that Sony is going to respond properly to some other problems.

I'm going to stop looking at this forum so often because it was overwhelming . I hope you all get lucky and you find your solution .

Just want to say that Sony has disappointed me a lot and I'm sure this will be my first and my last Sony device.

This is sad. I really hope the problem will be resolved till the next two months with upcoming (?) android update.

Please Pakillo73, come with feedback about rooting your phone: Does this mean you still need to delete every once in a while the files in data/core and data/crash?

Also: Can you UNroot you phone?

I am tired of this situation, and I just want to rant! So, let me write to Sony here. If I write somewhere else, I will have to start explaining the problem from the beginning, and I do not feel like it. Slightly_smiling_Face

Dear Sony!

I am a customer of yours who bought a nice mobile phone with a very nice set of characteristics (On Paper)

I want a working phone that I could use to make calls and install simple apps like Spotify, facebook, whatsapp and a simple GPS navigation app. The device I bought and paid for should be able to handle that. Is it too much to ask?

I am not a power-user and I do not need the most powerful device on the market, so the Xperia L should be more than enough for that.

I DO NOT want to have a dead mobile phone every 3 weeks.

I DO NOT want to have to factory reset my phone every 3 weeks because device memory is full and I cannot even receive SMS's.

I DO NOT want to compulsively use the clean-Master to "try" to prolongue the time between resets. My time is worth more than that.

I DO NOT want to waste time searching in forums how to solve the memory issue in my Xperia L

I DO NOT want to become an engineer and learn how to root the phone. I do not think I need to learn what rooting is, or risk killing my device.

I JUST WANT WHAT I HAVE PAID FOR a simple working mid-range telephone, is it too much to ask for?

I  DESERVE an answer from Sony or at least from the Forum Administrators.

I DESERVE the respect of knowing that someone has read the problems of their PAYING customers and what is being done to solve our problem.

I am disappointed with Sony not just for the bug (That can happen) but specially for the lousy treatment of their customers.

I KNOW that if this is not solved by shortly I will be offering myself as a present a new working device; my peace of mind is worth the 250 EUR that it will cost me.

You, as a company should already know that a mistreated customer tells their experiences to at least 5 people around and that it is bad marketing. In the Internet Era multiply it for at least 10 and you will be closer.

Guess who is NOT going to buy an Xperia Tablet this Christmas? Guess who is NEVER EVER considering a Bravia TV? Guess who will never get or offer as a present a Play Station or PSP? And of course all my family, friends and co-workers have heard me complain about my beautiful unusable phone.

After reading someone's post about Spotify crashing if left running in the background when done listening to music, I decided to try killing the process each time I stop listening, either using the recent apps menu, Settings > Apps > Running or both. Seems to be working so far but it's only been around one week. My advice for everyone facing the device memory issue is to kill an app when done with it via the Recent Apps menu or the Running section under Settings > Apps (the latter to be sure that it's actually killed).
