Which TV for clearest sound?

We are in the market for a new TV, around 50" or so, up to but prefer under £1000. I don't fully understand current terminology but most new TVs seem to have a good picture these days. Our main issue is with poor sound clarity. We have age related hearing loss and need high quality speech clarity - as in clear NOT loud - and are not interested in internet use or loud bassy film or music pounding away. Can you advise please as we would prefer to stay with Sony having had good service in the past. Thanks

Hi @richno10   I would visit the largest TV retailer in your area and compare the sound on the TVs. In very general terms the more you pay the better the sound. Most Sony TVs have a clear voice setting. If you ask a manufacturer then they will say they are all good! The Sony sets are in three grades X7, X8 and X9. The best being the X9s. As the 2022 TVs (K) hit the shops you should get a bargain with the 2021 models (J).

Whatever TV you have it is well worth trying and exploring the sound menu options, for example you find clarity improves if you turn up the treble and reduce bass. There can also be an option to choose whether the TV is on a table top stand or wall mounted. Again try both settings and see which is clearest for you. Another option that may be present is something like a 'loudness' feature alters the audio response at lower volume levels. That might be called something like 'Night Mode'.
