IR Blaster controlling Sky+HD box

IR Blaster controlling Sky+HD box

KD-65X8509C bought within the last week

I have the TV's IR Blaster setup to control a BSkyB Sky+HD box, and most controls work great.  However, the UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT navigation buttons work, but always sends 3 occurrences of UP, DOWN, LEFT, or RIGHT instead of just one occurrence.

So, for example, when navigating the Sky+HD box list of recordings, pressing down skips down 3 recordings, making it impossible to select the recordings in-between.

Is there some way to update the IR blaster database to correctly only send 1 occurrence of LEFT, RIGHT, UP, or DOWN when that button is pressed?  Or is there any other solution to this problem, that will make the UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT buttons behave correctly?

Had a phone call this morning from Sony support.  This is what they said:

"A solution has actually been found, and should be implemented in the next TV software, it's actually going to be released this week, so once you update the software to the latest version, which I believe is 3.17, the issue should be resolved".

So, doing the update now, and will see if this problem is finally resolved.

And the answer is.........

NO.  Problem is not fixed with v3.179

I'm beginning to think that Sony haven't understood the problem.  Why go to all the bother of phoning me to say it's fixed when it isn't.  Don't Sony test their firmware before releasing it?

So, SONY, please keep this problem on the "still to be fixed" list.

Confirm the latest firmware update today [2 Feb 2016] does not fix the
SKY+HD box problem. Not clear why is it so difficult for Sony to sort this
out - universal remote manufacturers have had this under control for years..
[pun intended]

Don't get too excited about IR blaster performance once/if Sony ever fix it
for SKY+HD - tends to be a lag going through Android/IR blaster that you
don't get with a simple IR remote. You can simulate this using the following
workarounds on the standard Sony remote:

* "Action Menu > Guide (STB) > Enter" - opens the Sky TV Guide

* Use the number keys to select a section of the guide if you can't
get there using "Left/Right" (eg "6" takes you to the Sports section)

* Use "Down/Up" keys to move down to the programme you want (if
Android is having a slow day you may experience extreme frustration at this
point as the menu scrolling catches up with your keystrokes). If the
programme you want is skipped by the IR blaster system, key in the channel
number (eg "404") followed by "Enter"

Personally I may invest in a universal remote (smart version) having learned
not to waste my money on Sony products in future..

This is fixed in v3.317

At last I can use the TV remote to control my Sky+HD box correctly as I'd hoped to do when I first bought the TV.  Hopefully it will also control my Sky Q box.

Its really works well.  Using the touch remote to navigate Sky+HD menus, select recordings, etc. is really very responsive, and better than using my one-for-all remote.

It's the Irish/European firmware released yesterday, that also includes:

    - USB HDD Recording
    - Twin Picture (Picture-in-Picture / Picture-and-Picture)

3.317 is the update which was released for EU countries yesterday.  For the UK, the next update is scheduled for 31 March, which will include this fix.

I guess the only difference between the Irish/European firmware and the U.K. firmware is the inclusion of YouView. So, if you want Split Picture and USB HDD recording, and don't need Freeview, then why wait until 31st March?

Does the fix in release 317 fix the problem on the 55x9005cbu?  Why do we need to wait until the end of March?

Hi there

This issue should now be fixed with the release of firmware PKG3.315.0102EUA on the 8 March in the UK.
