Z5 MM NullPointerException: Resources.getConfiguration() causes force close in multiple apps

CF Issue tracker here.

Bug in ROM impacting more and more applications:

  • Keep - attempting to set a place reminder causes force close,
  • Tasks - [same],
  • Hangouts - send location causes force close of Play Services,
  • Security -> Trusted Places - trying to create trusted place causes force close.

I've wiped, then fresh installed 32.1.A.1.163. Bug still exhibited.
Wondering:

  1. is anyone else experiencing this problem
  2. if you aren't experiencing this bug, could you provide your ROM version (so I can flash it!)

Tell me how to test it and I'll do so

Hi uliwooly.

It's simple to reproduce. Open up Google Keep. Create a note. Add a reminder. Change reminder from date/time to place. Tap edit place. Get "Google Play services has stopped working" notification.
Open Hangouts. Open any conversation. Tap the location (map pin) icon. Get "Google Play services has stopped working" notification.
Tasks (Astrid clone) same - create task, try to add location reminder (same result).
Or finally, go Settings > Security > Smart lock > Trusted place > add trusted place (same result).

Thanks for responding Slightly_smiling_Face

Please update your Software to build number 224 first and if it's reproducible, than this is bug must be fixed.

Hi Bugmenot, I would - except that isn't an option unless I download an unbranded firmware and flash via flashtool. My carrier is 3 UK and 163 is the latest available according to Sony's PC suite.

Sorry, didn't know, this is your latest update. Did you try OTA too?

Whatever... Did you try cleaning the cache too of Google play service?

Did full wipe and fresh install over the weekend. Cleared all my location data on Google too. It's the exact same issue that I posted a link to (I checked the stack trace in a bug report generated by my phone). No amount of clearing data is going to make the ROM return an instatiated object instead of a null, unfortunately Winking_Face

Are you on 224 - and if you are can you attempt to reproduce the bug please (so I can see if it's worth my while taking the flashtool/unbranded ROM route!)
