Plain and simple, bought my XPERIA Z3 on March 2015. On October 2015 a beach wave struct my shorts with my "waterproof" Z3 in my pocket. Now the screen fails to turn on and I'm stuck without a phone. Sony commercials clearly show ocean underwater scenes of the phone where corals are present therefore salt water should not be an issue. I go to esupport site only to get a message that reads, "repair support for this device is not available in your country". I live in California.
My question is: Where do I go from here? Who do I contact?
I have bought sony phones since the walkman era and have had the z1, and z2 without any problems under the same circumstances. I am a huge sony fanboy from TVs to alarm clocks and everything in between has been rock solid and last at least a decade. Sony, please fix this.

So, IP68 certified device's aren't allowed to be in contact with salt water nor any chemical water apart from chlorinated.
However I have a feeling that 1 wave shouldn't kill the device if all ports were closed and if it wasnt submerged.
On your place I'd send the device to sony for a vacuum test.
I sent already 2 devices because of water damage, they got replaced for free and now im sending 3rd 1 because of water damage
Salt water its a issue. Try to read the IP68 certify and you will understand how to use your phone in water:)
As @alex1atd said, salt water is a no for IP68 certified phones, only fresh water and clorinated water (to some extent) is tested. You can try to contact your Local support and see how it can be fixed.
So next I should fill my pool with bottled water and make sure I go to a distilled water lake???
I'm sorry but a beach wave in my pocket should not cause the phone to malfunction to this extent. The phone was glitchy beforehand and even tested the waterproofing on my phaucet the day I bought it with the end result of having the headphone jack not work for a full week. I read everywhere online about this "waterproof" issue and it's just bad marketing and lots of negative reviews for sony. This goes beyond my phone, they should care about their brand image.
If it's a proofing defect, a simple vacuum test in an authorized Local support center will detect it. And you don't need to use distilled water, fresh water will suffice. I damaged my old Z phone by washing it with soapy water, was frustrated and complained about it until I knew it's my fault so I accepted the fact that it was not designed to be used with soapy water.

Dear Sony Customer Service,
Thanks to your "WATERPROOF" Xperia phone and your none response to my warranty claim you just lost a 20 year loyal customer.
It is pretty sad to see how you disregard and don't feel accountable for your conception mistakes and let your customers pay for it!
