Xperia Z1 to Z5 Transfer

I currently have a Z1 with 32GB SD Card (over 20GB spare).  Just about to upgrade to a Z5 (on same mobile provider).

What's the best process for transferring a 'like for like' backup to my new phone, i.e. all photos, music, app settings, etc?

There appears to be a few ways, but wanted to find out best practice or experience Crying_Face

Many thanks

I did this last night, and was abit of a pain.. (mainly as my Z1 couldn't keep up with the transfer it seemed).

You can transfer all your photos / videos onto your SD card and simply plug this into your Z5.

As for settings etc there is a application called Xperia Transfer and this can transfer eveyting from phone to phone for you. Give this ago, I was having issues with this last night, but it was trying to transfer some large photos.. and if you simply put all your photos on your SD card then you will have less to transfer over and it may work smoother. I transfered all my messages over this and worked great.

As for contatcts, they can be synced to your google account so don't need to be transfered.. aslong as you have them to be synced to google etc.

In a nutshell, put what you can on the SD card, sync what you can to google etc and transfer the rest via Xperia Transfer app. I think that should cover most things.

Thanks Redfern Slightly_smiling_Face

I already have all my photos, music and videos on my SD card.  The only things on my phone are the apps, apps data and settings.  So if I slot my SD card into the new Z5 and use the Xperia Transfer on both, it may be a little less painful that first thought.

The original worry was that because my Z1 has become slow, the 'bloat' would come across to my new shiny Z5 and affect performance.  But I guess, this is the risk I'll have to take.

That was my worry (although i recon that the Z5 will be able to run it all fine).

I decided to go for a more clean aproach and simply just take over my photos / videos on the SD card, transfer messages and contacts.. and I have decided to just download the apps i want again as i had many that i don't actually use etc.

Try the xperia transfer app though, hopefully this works for apps / settings etc.

Another option i guess it to back it up on a computer from Z1 / restore ot Z5? (i don't know if it allows that, im just guessing if it does).

That may be the approach...I'll start stripping down the apps and messages in prep.

Thanks once again :smileysmileythumbsup:

How does this all work if i'm planning to switch my sim card from one to the other - as to my knowledge you can't have a phone on without a sim card in it? but both would need to be on to use the transfer app?
