it can be seen on most background colours and it's quite large, my phone is under warranty should i send it off for repair?

I'm so sorry to hear about your phone.

I totally agree with what @uliwooly recommended, you should have your device sent in to an authorized service centre.

I would recommend getting in touch with your Local support team and they will assist you with having the device sent in and they will also be able to answer all your questions regarding service routines, warranty and so forth!

Oh, I see.

It does sound like it's hardware related, but to be sure of that you could try performing a software repair using Xperia Companion.
