Unable to mount micro SD since marshmallow update

Hi all, hoping someone can help. Updated to marshmallow 6.0.1 last week and now my phone doesn't acknowledge that it has an SD card inserted at all. I've scoured Google to see what's up but all I'm finding is about Sony not adding the feature to use an SD as internal memory. This isn't what I'm after, I just want to keep using it as extra internal memory like I could previously. From what I can gather there should still be an option to mount an SD, format, and eject, but my storage screen only has the internal memory bar/panel, then underneath, the option to add remote shares. Am I just being really slow, or is there something my phone is now missing? Or is this something Sony have now removed altogether, in which case, why even bother having the slot for an SD?

Oh to also add - I've tried the obvious of backing up/formatting/reinserting, and my PC and Z2 tablet (which I haven't updated) both recognise the SD fine.

Booting in Safe Mode has sorted it, thanks a lot!
