Sony PC Companion install issue

I went to use PC Companion earlier and it said I needed to update it. Now I keep getting a error:

An error (-5006 : 0x80070020) has occured while running the setup

Please make sure you have finished any previous estup and closed other applications. If the error still occuers please contact the vendor: Sony (http://sonmobile.com)

Report Detail Ok.

So I booted to safe mode and uninstalled it as it came up with the same error when I tried to uninstall normally.

So now I do not have it installed but it comes up with the error on install.

Getting fed up now - only just got my dead Z replaced and I want to finish setting it up!!

Suggestions please Slightly_smiling_Face

Well - being an IT person I tried disabling anti-virus first......:smileycool:

A combination of booting to safe mode, trying uninstall and rebooting the machine and trying installs again seemed to eventually unlock whatever was locking the install. Odd one but I have it installed now.

I have another question though. Now I have this later version it says 'Your phone / tablet is up to date' - what tablet does it support as it doesn't support my Xperia S tablet (although I probably know the answer to this it's annoying as I'd love to back up my Xperia S tablet before my Z arrives....)??

CHeers anyway guys - very odd problems this one...

Try disabling your antivirus and firewall and then install it

Haven't seen this problem before. If the suggestion from Arjun doesn't help, what happens if you try to install PC Companion from another user account in Windows?

Glad to hear that you solved the problem.

Can't say for sure but i suspect PC Companion will support http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/tablets/xperia-tablet-z/.

Tablet S is not my area but i believe you should be able to use a standard backup application like MyBackup.

Sony; the masters of Catch 22. PC Companion 2.10.165 (or .188); installs fine, Sony Xperia SP recognised fine - all wonderful - except - programmes insist on being updated and will not run without being updated. When updated to either 2.10.289 (via downloadable exe) or to 2.10.297 (via sneakily downloaded exe or via the automatic updater) finally can be made to install without errors (I think as a minimum Java V8U65 is required to be installed?) doesn't recognise Xperia SP.

Genius.

I think "Never again Sony" just about covers it

I have read (or skimmed through) most the text in this link and, though close, none seems to apply to me so here it goes:

I've just replaced my desktop's SSD for a different breand, installing everything from scrap. When installing Sony PC Companion (Xperia Companion won't recognize my old phone model) it insists on updating to a newer version or shutting down the program and when I click OK it immediately displays an "installation error", something it never does in the older HD. Both SSDs have legal Windows 10.

Any clues? Already tried shutting antivirus and firewall.

Thanks
