Sony MDR-NC31EM No longer working as headphones, just mic

Tried with support but they couldn't replicate the issue, whenever I plug my MDR-NC31EM headphones in my phone it thinks it's a mic so no sound is played through them, at first I thought it was just the headphones themselves so I ordered a new pair but the new ones act just the same way, I don't believe it's a hardware problem since all other headphones I've tried work like they should, the problem also did occur at the same time as I updated to 4.4.4 so I'm wondering if it's a bug or something, does anybody else have the same issue?

I did a software repair as adviced by the support at Sony but that didn't work, I don't know what to do, now I'm here with 100 bucks worth of headphones I can't use!

Did it last night as all headphones stopped working, after repair normal headphones were registering again but noise reduction were still coming up as a mic

There working now, after using the app to force them as normal headphones, I plugged my partners headset in because the original Sony noise reduction ones sounded really bad, I plugged mine back in so I could mess with the sound settings to try make it sound better but as soon as I plugged them in it registered them as noise reduction

Glad to hear that you got your phone to recognise your noise cancelling earphones correctly. It is strange this happened but at least your persistence paid off.

Definitely something that happened following the 4.4.4 update, ive given up with mine and for the first time since 2010, Im carrying an mp3 player and a phone. Can't believe I left HTC for this.

Hello!
Does anyone else have this problem, the noise reduction head phones when connected do not work and the phone thinks an external microphone is connected, I try with normal headphones and the same problem...
I don't know what to do... I can't listen to my music on the move?! Please help.

What if you restart your phone? And see if that helps.
