Screen with only millions coloured dots

Hello everyone,

I've just changed my broken LCD screen on a Xperia z3 compact, and all I have is a unresponsive screen with millions of coloured dots, like an Hubble picture of remote galaxies...

Is it a hardware problem with the LCD screen or a software problem, and in the latest case what can I do to solve it ?

Thanks in advance,

Bart

did you change it by your own?

as this is a hardware problem it is best handled by your local service center, send your device for repair Local support

Hello nolramlb, thank you for your answer.

So yes, I changed it myself; but when you write it's a hardware problem does it come from the LCD (in which case I can send it back - I bought it on ebay with a 30-days warranty), or from the mainboard ?

And isn't it some kind of reset I could perform first ? I just want to avoid the 2-3 weeks delay if I have to send it to Sony, I'm quite dependent of that device..

Thanks in advance,

Bart

It's either a dodgy ribbon, dodgy ribbon connection or bad screen.
Unfortunately only local support can tell you, and they may be reluctant to look at a device that has been tampered with.

Apologies for resurrecting this thread, but I have exactly the same problem: my daughter's Z3 Compact had a cracked screen, so I ordered a replacement screen (+digitiser).

I removed the old screen and connected the new screen to test before sealing in place: powering on the phone and running the screen diagnostics showed the screen to be working perfectly. I then powered off, disconnected it, applied the new seal, fixed it down and reconnected and got a screenful of randon pixels as per the OP. Assuming it was the screen at fault (it was an Ebay jobbie), I ordered a replacement from a dismembered Z3 Compact; I have just replaced that and get eaxactly the same random pixel display, so there is obviously a problem with the phone itself. I'll add that I'm used to working methodically and carefully, and despite being a little bit fiddly, it's not a difficult job; I took great care (especially as it was my daughter's phone!) and can't imagine where/how I might have done any damage.

Does anyone have any ideas?
