Regarding warranty and yellow tint

Regarding warranty and yellow tint

I've had a Z5 compact for a short while and there has been a slight yellow tint on the right side of the screen. I works fine and you can really only see it if there is a white background. It is very annoying though so I took it to the store where I bought it to have them look at it. The guy working there said it would be fixed with the warranty (he was very sure about it since he had worked with phone repairs) and offered to send it for repair.

It sounded good to me so I agreed to sent it for repair. However, now I get a message from the repair shop saying there is no warranty for this and I have to pay them 150 Euro for changing the screen or around 40 euros to send it back. I even have to pay for trashing it!

Will my warrany be gone altogether if I don't pay for changing the screen now? I heard so many bad things about Xperia phones breaking by themselves etc that I really don't want to be without the warranty for the future!

Here is a picture that was sent from the repair shop. There were NO scratches before I sent it in (I have always used screen protector and flipcase) - don't know what that tiny white mark in the photo is from. The problem was the tint that you can hint on this picture...

Hi @dfu, so sorry to hear about that. Slightly_frowning_Face

I'm afraid that I am not able to inform you regarding local warranty terms and service routines, since even though I work globally, I am based in the Nordics. My recommendation in your case is to get in touch with your Local support in order to be informed as to what applies to your local market, they will be able to assist you further and answer your question! Slightly_smiling_Face

As an example, in our market the service center first has to repair out of warranty damage before moving on to in-warranty repairs. So, this means that if you would choose to have your device sent back it may not necessarily void the warranty, but if you send it in again, in our market the display would still have to be looked at even though you may send it in for a different in-warranty repair. This has to do with us making sure that the repaired device meets our specifications regarding warranty and functionality before sending it back to you. Again, please note that is what applies in my local market (the Nordics).

Have a word with your local support team to see what applies for you, I'm afraid that this user based global support forum is not the best way to get answers regarding local inquiries. You local team however, will be able to assist you further. Slightly_smiling_Face

I am from the Nordic (Sweden to be exact) and I ended up here after looking for a way to contact Sony Xperia support.

I have spent some time trying to get hold of the shop who sent it for repair but they have no phone number. I'll visit them tomorrow!

I have also messaged the repair shop and they claim this damage is from keeping the phone in a back pocket or something similiar. First of all - that's not true. The phone is small but not small enough for a womans back pocket.

Secondly, I don't see see how this damage could be caused from something like that anyway. The tint is on the side and phones should be more sturdy than that.

The guy in the shop said it was a faulthy construction pressing the lcd from the inside (or something to that effect - I can't remember exactly) and googling the problem it seems to be a common problem for Xperia Z-versions.

I'll try contacting Sony on the website tomorrow as well,

Thanks for the replies.

I have had the same problem on my Sony telephones, was told that it was the glue used on the screen that did this. I have now a z5 and today I started to get a little yellow on the right side of the screen, this also happened to my z3 twice.

So sorry to hear that @Tine72. Slightly_frowning_Face I'm afraid that I do not know the reason behind the occurrence, but it's very unfortunate that it has happened 3 times. I wish I could do more for you, but I can only recommend that you have your device sent to an authorized service center since it's hardware related. Slightly_frowning_Face

In order to have it sent in, I advice getting in touch with your Local support as they are well informed regarding service routines and warranty terms concerning your market.

Hi Tine,

I've been on vacation and had no energy to deal with this again until now.

I don't recommend you send it it for repair with Sony as the same thing that happened to me will probably happen to you. Ie local shop says it will be repaired with warranty but after they send it in, Sony says it's your fault, removes your warranty and keeps you phone hostage for €40 (if you don't want to spend €160 changing the screen).

I could have repaired it for a lot less (€70) in a normal repair shop but I am not interested in owning an Xperia anymore... Slightly_frowning_Face
