This is really going to be based on the Unit you are connecting to, it may be possible for the head unit to see the SD card if in MSC mode, however you can only really clarify by testing.

Switching usb connection to msc works.

Don't know what actual difference I made.

MSC mode means use the SD card only and not the internal storage.
