Phone reporting message not sent when it is???

Very strange issue today which I've never encountered anything like before.

I went to send a SMS today and it failed to send despite having a good level of signal. I retried and it still failed so I restarted the my phone, still failing to send. So I tried to phone my own house phone, that worked fine no issues there. 

I then tried texting my sister who was home with me, despite my phone saying the message failed to send she recieved it no problem and messages she sends me I recieve, but everytime I send a message the phone says 'Could not send' despite the message being receievd on the other phone! Driving me mad, I've tried restarting, taking the SIM out and putting it back in again, re-downloading the internet/MMS settings from my provider (o2). 

Any ideas?

try a different messaging app and also contact your carrier/network

Installed a different messaging app from play store and works fine! No failed to send reports, so something is wrong with my default Sony Messaging App 

Not sure how to sort that other than resetting my phone which I'd rather not do...

Settings > apps >  messaging > memory > clear data > restart the phone > boot in >>> safe mode > test it
