My laptop can't detect my new Xperia Z2,please help.

I just bought the new Z2, it was great until I can't sync or back up my data to my laptop. My laptop is using Window 7 and I have updated the phone to 17.1.1.A0.402 version. Beside that I also updated the Sony PC Companion, yet nothing can I do to sync or back up to my laptop even y using wifi or usb cable (original from the box). My laptop also can't detect the Z2 device too. Please help, thank you.

Try the reinstall option and when it asks for the driver point it to this file once you have downloaded it:

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

To solve the issue, open Device Manager on your computer to reinstall the driver for your device while your device is connected with your PC via a USB cable.

Microsoft Windows Vista and 7 users

To open Device manager on your computer
Click on the Start button.
In the Search box, type device manager, and then press enter.

Microsoft Windows 8 users

To open Device manager on your computer
Click the Desktop Tile to open the Desktop.
Click >> at the bottom right of the taskbar.
Select Control Panel from the Menu.
Select Device Manager from the list of control panel items.
Note: If you do not see the screen with the Device Manager option, click the View by drop-down menu and select Small icons.

Microsoft Windows XP and 2000 users

To open Device manager on your computer
On the desktop, right-click on My Computer and click Properties.
In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
In the Hardware, tab click the Device Manager button.

To reinstall the drivers for your device

Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus controllers (USB section) of the Device Manager window.
Look for an MTP Device: Media Device, Unknown Device or any other reference to your phone. Click on this entry and choose "Uninstall" whilst leaving the device connected.
Wait a few minutes, and the computer will reinstall the drivers for the device.
Now, the phone is accessible via Computer/My Computer on your computer.

Thank you for your response. I tried the method that you suggested, but in my device manager, my device show as D6503 and I reinstal it, yet it still not working. And I did try to update from web using window option, but also not working.Untitled.jpg

Hi Sony,

Just bought an Xperia Z2 today from docomo in Japan and there is no USB cable included, or headphones?

I happen to have another USB cable that fits and charges the phone, however the Sony PC Companion application does not recognize the phone, ironically it does detect my old iPhone...  I've tried looking under Device Manager > USB devices but there is no media device or particular USB device that appears to be the phone.  Tried all 3 USB ports on Windows 7

Is the Xperia Z2 from Docomo meant to come with a Sony USB cable and noise cancelling headphones?.. or does the docomo model not include these?  I was sold a wall charger which doesn't seem like it would be necessary if the USB cable was included?

I'm looking to return this if it is going to be an ongoing technical issue.

Kind regards

Hi TVTVTV and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

The charger is two parts, USB Cable and power adapter so you will have a cable if you have a charger. Regarding the headset, this will vary from market to market so you are best to speak with your local Xperia Care team to confirm.

Hi,

I'm think I'm having the same problem: my PC and Sony PC Companion do not recognise the phone.

If I open device manager the phone appears under "other devices" as D6503 with an exclamation mark next to it. If I double click it tells me "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)". I've tried all the steps set out on this thread, including downloading the driver using the link.

However, when I try to point to the folder containing the xperia Z2 driver (called "Xperia Z2 device driver") it says "windows could not find driver software for your device". Am I doing something wrong?

Grateful for help on this - I'm within the 14 days in which I can return the phone free of charge, and I will be doing that if I can't fix this!

Thanks,

Neil
