MMS photos pixelated

Hello!

I'm finding that when I attach a photo to a text message, it instantly appears pixelated. Even before they have been sent I can see its already pixelated.

I have a Sony Xperia z3 compact. This has only become a problem in recent months, always fine before. But I seem to recall there may have been an update and since then this has been a problem.

Incoming MMS messages are fine.

Using the standard text message programme.

Can't find any settings for compressing images for sending, etc.

Help!! Can you point me in the right direction to find the right settings to sort this out?

(Thanks in advance!)

Sending MMS will compress the picture, it can also be restricted by your carrier/network, you can send the pictures through other messaging apps or upload them to box, drive, onedrive, dropbox and share the link to keep the original size/quality.

Hi.

Thanks for replying. Yes I know mms messages will condense photos slightly, but as I said, this never used to be a problem. So something in my settings changed and they are down being reduced so small that they are not really viewable as they are so pixelated.

I'm texting images to older relatives, so mms is the only way. Their phones / technical ability doesn't extend to what's app, drop box, etc. 😀

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Which messaging app are you using?

Just the standard text messaging programme /app that come with the phone.

Settings > apps > messaging > clear data > restart the phone > check again, also contact your carrier network regarding MMS size restriction.

Just wondering are you sending the actual picture or a thumbnail ?

Hi @Flo7777,

Welcome to the community.

I am sorry to hear about the issue you are facing. Can you please confirm if the images you are trying to send were taken with the camera or are they screenshots?

Hi.

It's a combination, but mainly photos.

Thanks.

@Flo7777,

I see. Have you completed the steps @uliwooly suggested?

Also, do you know if the recipient receives a pixelated image or if it's just on your side where it is shown that way?

I have this same issue with my Sony Xperia XZ Premium when sending photos taken with my camera via txt. My wife receives them pixelated.
