MMS failure

MMS failure

I can't send or receive MMS pictures. I've done the Settings>More>Internet Settings (Download settings for internet and MMS) thing, and my internet browsing is and always has been fine. If I turn Wi-Fi off and choose to browse via 2G, it's next to useless, but it DOES work. When I get into a 3/4G area it works as you'd expect without me changing any settings.

In a 2G only area, a  ~256K image should still be able to be received and sent, albeit with a slight wait, shouldn't it?

The message I get when people try to send me something is "Message not downloaded", and although I can press and hold to select "Download message", it still doesn't work. WHen I try to send, I get "Message queued for sending", after about 5 minutes. I've read about that message lots of times, but it seems the answer is always that the user hasn't downloaded the correct internet/MMS settings, which I have.

I'm on O2, UK,  and am on a contract with data available (and it won't deny me more data if I go over my limit).

Cheers for any help.

Contact O2 and request to get the APN settings sent OTA and also you could get a brand new SIM card.

Cheers - I'll phone O2 now. I don't think I need a new SIM though, I got this one in... erm... SEPT/OCT 14. Or has there been a change since?

Hopefully O2's OTA settings will do it, I'll report back.

in that case you don't need a new SIM card, as long as the SIM card it's a MICRO SIM card and not a trimmed SIM card.

It's a micro SIM - i.e. it came in a credit-card sized thing, with a normal SIM-sized thing to "poke out", and then within that, a micro-SIM to poke out. I assume that's correct? I haven't literally cut my SIM with scissors or anything!

It seems to have at least half-worked, in that I can receive MMS now, cheers. I did it via the online chat thing, after trying about a million times. I'll report back if there are still problems. I really think it may be that I'm only in a 2G area, indoors... but we'll see. Cheers for now, anyway.

After speaking to a person from O2, apparently MMS sending isn't supported in 2G areas. I don't really believe them, because I'm sure I've done it at some point in the past, but it does tally with my experience (i.e. I've sent MMS when in 3G/4G areas, and I can receive only from people on other networks who have 3G coverage here). Not Sony's fault, O2-UK's fault. rubbish... no MMS in 2015?
