This app is causing battery and internet drain.

What's New can't be disabled, but you can restrict its access to background data which will save your internet data and some battery as a result.

Go to Settings -> Apps -> What's new -> Data usage -> Background data -> Disable

This way the app won't use any internet data in the background, only when you open the app itself.
