XZ2 Premium to cost a whopping $1000

https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/6/27/17510102/sony-xperia-xz2-premium-999-price-release...

What the heck is Sony thinking? Who are they trying to target with this price? They're not gonna make Galaxy users switch that's certain. The 256 gb model of the S9+ is 950. Ok so the XZ2 Premium should be just as good as the 9Plus so you might think that the 1000 dollar price tag is reasonable but Samsung is a bigger brand, Sony is tiny compared to them especially in the US and if they want people to buy their phone than they need to price it more competitvely.

I think $850 is more than fair. I was looking forward to upgrading and I likely will but I'll probably pick up a used version on Ebay. Tell if you agree or disagree and remember these are just my personal views.

Maybe it is priced competitively... Guesses on the Note9 price? Over $1k I hear.

So out of the big summer/autumn releases you could have a note9 over 1000, next iPhone probably same, and the XZ2 Premium at just under 1000.

@Ninjabird7

It's a matter of personal preferences; if you think it's overpriced then don't buy it and go for a more cost-friendly phone. But I think it's not fair to compare XZ2P to S9+, they don't fit into the same category.

That's the phone I was hoping to get. Just don't think I want to spend 1k on it

@Ninjabird7

Well, it's the launch price. Prices tend to get lower after launch.

I'm not speaking from a selfish point of view. I just want Sony phone division to succeed  The design change and dual cameras were put in to attract non Sony fans to buy one but the price might make them think twice. And if the price goes down a bit after launch then great

The Sony XZ2 Premium got serious display issue, as you can see from the clip, the emoji turned green then yellow. Overall the LGD RGBW panel seems poor apart from the maximum brightness. (And arguably real 4K as only 2K in terms of colour pixels).

Yet, Sony still decided to go ahead with the release in China tomorrow (originally scheduled today). Therefore, people are now urging Sony to fix the issue before putting it on market and dirty its name (again). Hopefully with more coverage Sony will listen and get it corrected. (Seems likely to be hardware issue tho, LGD RGBW panel for cost cutting).

You'll find they have the screen setup to adjust to what is displayed, when it's just text the white balance is shifted towards that initial colour, then when the emojis pop up it seems to go into super vivid mode and the balance shifts.

And how did you come to the conclusion it's not 4k? Just wondering.

I agree with you Ninja, the samsung users won't make a switch and at this price point no one would think of switching given the price point of 1K, not reasonable at all!
