Xz2 compact volte not working on tmobi

The Sony press releases suggest that t-mobile is a supported carrier.  VoLTE is unavailable. The cell service reverts to 3g when placing or receiving a call.

Tmobile believes it should work but the options are unavailable in the network settings.

Having the same issue on my Xz2 Compact. I'm on AT&T in the US and using the duel sim version.

To clarify: I'm using the US (H8314) model and not an international version.  When I go into the Android testing menu it seems VoLTE is currently disabled by Sony.  Seems that Sony will need to release an OTA update to enable it.  Will Sony enable VoLTE on this device for T-Mobile?

I'll be returning it in a few days if not.

Any updates? I want to buy this phone, only if it has VoLTE support on T-Mobile.

Yeah...this is a really big problem since the phone supports band 12 LTE data. Can we get an official response from Sony as to why IMS has been totally disabled on T-Mobile? I mean really...even Xiaomi's phones work fine on T-Mobile's VoLTE so it's a bit frustrating that Sony can't impliment this.

Can we get an official answer, rather than anecdotal reports from other forums?

XDA-forum post saying they talked to Sony and T-Mobile, who said they are not pursuing certification:

Reddit post with someone saying they talked to T-Mobile, saying VoLTE is not coming for XZ2C:

XDA-forum post saying the XZ2 is getting VoLTE support:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz2/help/volte-vowifi-settings-t3777579/page8#post76628623

Taken from the post in that forum, relating to XZ2 (not compact) support:

"I was home today and I spend hours talking to Sony tech support and T-Mobile tech support after a long conversation with both Sony and T-Mobile,T-Mobile escalates the problem to their engineers and I think they call Sony so after few hours I received a call back from T-Mobile tech support to inform me that Sony will release in the coming weeks software update to enable WiFi calling and VoLTE.
From my understanding it will be no more than 1 month ."

This post has been sitting here for a month and no one from Sony has replied to the bump from a week ago.

For what it's worth, I'm returning this phone. I usually do a lot of calls on my commute but the LTE drop and switch to 3G / HSPA+ causes a lot of dropped calls and bad quality. The OnePlus 5, which does have VoLTE enabled on T-Mobile, has no trouble on the same commute. I will chalk that up to T-Mobile degrading their non-LTE signal in favor of new technology, but that just demonstrates the point why this should have been solved before going to market and/or made more clear for networks that were not "certified" for this feature. I like the phone but the whole "phone" part of the experience only seems to work well if you're a Verizon customer.

How to update sony xperia xz2 compact to volte enabled

JiYong

It seems something fishy is going on between T-Mobile (US) and Sony.

The XZ2c has the hardware to support VoLTE.

I can see the option in my settings (unlocked phone in The Netherlands).

Looks like the XZ2c sold directly through T-Mobile has VoLTE blocked.

I have seen reports that unlocked phones do have VoLTE working with T-Mobile.
