I have had my XZ for just a year now. Recently I got a new USB charger to charge my phone. It worked perfectly. But a few days ago, when I plugged the charger in my phone, the charger sign didn't come until a minute later and it began charging very very VERY slowly. Took almost an hour to get to 10%. And the percentage would not go up when I used my phone, it would go down. I used another usb C cable and the same thing happened. And it keeps doing it now
What shall I do
Hi @Mars4, sorry to hear about this.
Did you use the new wall mounted charger with the other USB type C cable as well? If you did that, please try what @uliwooly suggested and use a different wall mounted charger, or just charge your device using a USB port on for example a computer. That way we can tell if there is something not working correctly with your new charger.
You can also try charging the device when it's powered off and see if it charges faster than when it's powered on and in use.
Keep us posted!
I've had my XZ nearly 2yrs now. Recently, when inserting the charger cable, it wouldn't click into place properly. It's the same original Sony cable and charger that came in the box, and still works fine in my wife's XA1. I've tried numerous cables but none will click in properly. It still charges, but I have to hold it place while it charges. It looks like something inside the port has bent out of shape preventing the cable from going all the way in.
Is there anything I can do? I love this phone, and planned to pass it down to one of the kids.
I briefly had the same issue the other day and hopefully it doesn't come back for me...
On the sides of the USB-C port (the part that has a male connector inside of the socket of the phone) it apparently has a couple of tiny wires (1 on each side) and when I plugged a third party cable that never had a problem before, I noticed it didn't go all the way in... so I grabbed another phone and turned the LED as a flashlight and noticed that 1 of the wires was out of place but was not bent so much....
So I took a flat toothpick (from a victorinox knife) which is plastic and non-conductive, and carefully drove it into place... after that I plugged slowly my original Sony cable and it charged normally... however I now fear that it could happen again...
I think that the reason to happen in the first place was that the other cable had a small hit near that area and the outer metal casing of the port looks a bit sharp... so I guess that when I tried to use it, it caught the side wire and move it out of place.
I recommend to inspect your port with good light and a magnifying glass and hopefully you can repair your port or remove any dirt or lint inside...
One thing I miss on my Xperia device is the alternative charging method from previous generations.... I had the Acro S which had an included charging dock, and I had the Z1C and Z3C with the magnetic charging docks and cables... (even though those were poorly engineered)... but having a secondary charging method is always welcome
Good to see a trend for wireless charging I guess
