Things I would like to see on XZ Premium

Hallo dear developers

I like the  Xperia XZ premium but i really miss some very useful and cool features that i had on my beloved sony xperia Z3 copper .

1-the double tap  to wake the phone up

this was so useful to quick see the time and date,to get some light when it was dark and i was looking    for something sweet near my bed Slightly_smiling_Face

2-the splitted wifi button so i could or just turn the network off or on OR if i pressed the lower part of it i saw the whole list of networks. This was brilliant  (on picture)

3-And now the thing i miss mostly. The picture app that showed all my pictures on my homepage with a option to scroll through them on the main screen.Pleas if this things can be applied on my XZ premium than tell me how?If not maybe make it possible in a update.

Thanks for the replies.

I was aware that clearing the apps from the tray did not save battery, it just find it useful if I'm flicking between apps a lot to keep them cleared from time to time.  But I now see the 'Clear All' option - cannot believe I missed it Dizzy_Face

Really, it's double tap to wake that is the big issue for me (and most users it seems).

First: The Phone is amazing. The camera is stunning, the current betas of the apps show a great future for the UI and the hardware-features are just stunning. Keep up the good work!

I would love to see:

- An updated Walkman-App since the design is dated

- VOIP embedded in the phone-app (like on Xperia X) for all regions

- Double tap to wake

- Audio Out over USB (like with lightning on iOS)

I've just returned to Sony after about 5 years, but I have been repairing them for a long time (nearly bought an X performance actually)

I've had mostly Samsung's and Los for the past few years now, I've just come away from the S7 edge. My business was going to Sony or HTC, but my soft spot for Sony kicked in and I took the XP premium (HTC are horrible to repair as well).

But I must say the HTC U11 camera eats the Sony XZPs. I trialled it in store.  And the speakers are better on any other phone. They are clear I guess but they really start to sound drowned after half volume level in UI, it's like something is overcompensating the levels.

Last phone I had with tap to wake was an LG, loved it. I find myself looking for it on this phone for some reason, oh wait because no buttons on face and I often have my phone next to me on desk. I know it can't have always in like S7 but DT2W would be awesome and I would forget about that Samsung feature.

SwiftKey I have been meaning to try, but it's slow on this phone and it was ambiguous to find the haptic or vibration feedback option.

The camera needs some help, not sure what can be done but I think some processing improvements could help with lack of OIS. Slo Mo mode shows up pitch black for me so can't use it unless that just night time in general (in living room with light on though).  Love Cam button on phone but camera placement in corner is not good. I guess the internal layout of this will be very typical Sony lot. Nowhere near as bad as HTC though I hope with the XZP.

Wish it had a stylus and note feature, it's big enough lot. Bezel seems overkill, should be 5.7in screen.

Otherwise so far very fluid and snappy phone, abusing battery a bit and it's going acceptably well. And BTW, headphone audio is SPECTACULAR! Could wear them all day

I just recently bought a ZX Premium too, and in general, I'm quite happy with it. However, there are some pieces missing, compared to my previous Xperia:

  1. The picture widget was about the first thing I discovered was missing
  2. Next, wehere did the Podcast option in the Music player go? I really miss that one
  3. The small apps, especially the calculator, were handy. Partly you gan get almost the same effect by the split-screen function, but not entirely.
  4. On my Xperia Z1, when I put it on the dock/stand that came with the phone, I had programmed SmartConnect to start the clock app, and it started automatically in "desk clock mode". In XZP I can only get the clock app to start, but not in desk clock mode, I have to manually start that mode after having put the phone in the dock.
  5. Speaking of the dock, I really miss the magnetic charger connector on Z1, it was much more convenient and easy to put the phone in that dock, where the contact almost found its own way to the correct loation by the help of the magnets.

I think I can manage to live on despite these missing items, but if I should rank those item, I think it's the Podcast part I miss the most. There are several podcast apps you can download frpm Google Play, but none is quite as good as the one that came with the music player. Why was it removed?

I really don't understand the hype about this device...or to be fair enough, I bought the XZP without even reading reviews online as I trust the brand since years and I expected a better/faster and most importantly SMARTER device.

It's indeed a faster device, the screen is an upgrade but that's eveything about it.

I was quite happy with the Z5P as it had almost everything I needed in a handset until i lost it.

2nd day with the XZP and I can already miss many things :

- Double tap to wake

- Widgets ( weather and album )

- FM RADIO !!!!!

- Dual SIM + SD CARD... for gods sake the Z5P can take 2 SIMs AND AN SD CARD. WHY ON EARTH do we have to use an SD card in SIM2 tray ?

- Xperia keyboard.. Seriously is swiftkey ? I used to like xperia one much more

- Bloatware everywhere. Can't uninstall it just disable it... really ?

- Worse Wifi range than the Z5P ( tested and confirmed )

- Camera distortion although the Z5P has also a very wide lense

And the list goes on.... Sure the XZP has a nice front camera, stereo speakers, is faster and subjectively has better battery life  but again it's heavier, taller, thicker and wider than the Z5P with even smaller screen to body ratio.

I paid $940 USD for this device and I'm already starting to miss my Z5P.

I hope Sony understands that if I am a loyal customer since 8 years, it's because it was providing handsets with top notch customization and proprietary apps and their flagship devices were fully loaded.

Xperia Apps are all over the internet as everyone wants them installed on his handset be it Samsung, HTC or crrap fanboys.

The least thing I want is a stock UI experience... What's next ? removing stamina mode ? headphone jack ? IP68 ? PLEASE LEAD DON'T FOLLOW.

I really wish the best for this brand but they're not helping.

Even Stock Android have more features than xperia UI ! SONY need to hire better software Engineer !

This is not about having better software engineers, this is about poor management who is making this kind of mistaken decisions. Note these engineers needs to do whatever management will say...

Now we can see by whom this division is led, in my opinion they are shooting in their own foot, I am saying it as their loyal customer since years. This is going so change whenever I will be buying a new phone. Voting no for Xperia and its latest decisions (camera - distortion, software treatment, software degradations, no new features and removing existing ones, also looking forward what they are trying to offer as XZ1 = nothing new, nothing interesting, specs behind the competition at given time and most probably additional software cuts). Sorry, this is not what I expect.

Honestly, please do not blame software engineers as they are just regular simple workers that need to do what they are told to do, they are not decision makers. These are higher like Project and Program managers, directors and CEO.

The good thing is that more and more people are showing them that they do not accept these decisions and that this is not what they except, results in sales are not debatable.

The bad thing is that people I mentioned above (management) seem not to care completely about the people who are buying their product(s) and their voices no matter the sales that shows directly people are going away to the competition.

The fact is to survive sorry needs money to operate and keep mobile division above the surface, it cannot be fund endlesly by playstation division and constant operational costs (this has its limits too as well as the customer has limits due to direct impact on the experience). Whenever sorry is asking for money to continue the project in fact they are asking us, their customers to give it to them by buying their phones. Hence I am also very small piece / part of their sponsors = I am eligible to say how these money should be used, but still they think they know better and do not listen, doing the things totally opposite to my expectations. In result I feel offended and plan to switch the brand and no longer sponsor sorry mobile.

Interesting thing is how important the happiness of the client nowadays is.
Nowadays everyone has much greater impact on environment thanks to Internet. In the past it was not like this. One company stated the results of the research claiming 1 person which is unhappy from the brand may have negative impact on the others up to 10 000 people (mostly thanks to the Internet, social media, family, friends, colleagues from work etc.). In the past it was much more difficult to spread the word without Internet. On the other hand the positive impact of happy customers was much smaller as it is somehow our nature to spread the good things less frequently as we are getting used to it that it works good and it becomes normal for us. So we focus on what is annoying us instead. This is why it is easy to lose good reputation and hard to work for really good one.
