Since last system update, some apps (audioteka.cz; mapy.cz) have problem accessing the SD card, reporting the storage failure. I can however access the card through file manager normally. Any advice?
Although I am happy to see that you have fixed your issue it is not the issue as I see it.
My issue is related to the fact that apps like Play Music, BeyondPod and Pocket cannot save media files to the SD card. It is still yet to be fixed and we are currently unsure if Sony is even looking into it.
They managed to fix the issue with the Z5 though, which is nice.
Sorry to see your problem persists. I have to say this latest update has been very troublesome and I am disappointed with the response from all of the commercial support functions I contacted. Tjey simply seem not to care.

Sigh yes, it's been weeks and weeks now.
Another minor update came out but I keep finding other issues with apps. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling apps; checking app permissions but I still have to reboot my phone after using memory-heavy apps like Google Maps, Pokemon Go, Facebook, 9Gag....anything basically! Even taking photos.
All I want, is to roll back to 7.0 that is ALL I want! Sony PLEASE give us this option!
@Jonas, any update on the SD card issue? I'v got a 64 GB SD card which I can use for storing... photos. It's make me frustrated! As far as I noticed the problem affects following apps:
- Google Music - every time I try to set offline storage location to the SD card the app crashes;
- Google Maps - the app cannot download offline maps when SD card is selected in its settings (no error message or app crash);
- Netflix - the app doesn't iterate the card in the offline video storage selection options;
- HERE WeGo - the card is visible in options but cannot be selected since the app cannot write the card.
Sony, do your really want make flagship-level phone owners worrying about unsufficient internal storage space for multimedia content?
I have bought 5 sony (lower case s because this brand means nothing to me anymore) devices during the past 4 years and the vast majority of that time has been extremely frustrating due to shockingly bad software issues. I never experienced anything like that with previous Motorola, Panasonic, Sanyo, HTC and Dell devices. With respect to this thread, a few days ago I posted a solution of sorts that worked for me and I'm certain it would have worked for many Xperia users here. It got deleted! I'm certain this post will go the same way. Well that's fine because the ongoing problems with this ghastly 7.1.1 update have finally led me to the best solution of all. Dump sony! In spite of last years Note 7 debacle, I'm going to give Samsung and their Note 8 a chance. Goodbye sony, and good riddance.
August security update (41.2.A.7.53) is being deployed. Is the bug still present? Has someone tested?
Thanks in advance!
I am unhappy to report that this bug still exists.
It is becoming a joke.
As it was taking so long for Sony to fix this issue I tried the software repair tool. Now my SD card is unencrypted (I am not going to try encrypting it in case this was the issue) but I can use it as normal.
I know this is not what people were hoping to hear as a fix but it worked for me.
I'm seeing the same issue as everyone else. Any news? Tried unencrypting the sd card to no avail. Neither Audible, Netflix or Spotify sees the sd card.
Hello there... We'd like to say "Hello, I'm happy with my new device", but..
Not so good point to start with fresh XZ Premium taken few hours ago.
Really?? Few months and still got some problems with SD Card? Are you kidding us, Sony?
Google Music - crash.
Google Maps - crash.
With beautiful new card from Sony, sold with your new fresh phone by your official Sony Centre....
Shame on you!!!!!!!!!!
Should I get some tea maybe, for relax.
And, of course, the question here: WHEN????
