Just thought I would let people know which apps I find good (work well) and useful on my XZ1 Compact G8441.
Drop Box - cloud service - set to wifi only and I also set to photo only to save on bandwith.
Total Recall Call Recorder (for XZ1 Compact in setup set to Native). Will record incoming and outgoing calls clearly without root, also allows upload to dropbox and other cloud services.
Talking Caller ID - will say the contact name or phone number when the phone rings (or sms if set up). Useful if you just want to let the call go to voicemail without having to pick up the phone.
Passwdsafe - great app for saving passwords and other info.
Call Meter 3G - great if you are on PAYG, you can check your payments are the same as the service provider thinks they are (takes a little setting up and is a bit complicated but good if you can do it).
GPS Status - good for checking your GPS locks on correctly.
Autosync - can be set to switch sync off when Wifi is off (so that mobile data does not sync if you are on PAYG and you manually switch on/off data).
Sync On/Off - manually switch sync on/off quickly (if needed).
Boot Logs - good if you have a problem with regular rebooting (see if it booted overnight etc.)
Map Factor Navigator (offline satnav) - I used to use this one and will try it out on the XZ1 Compact.
Offline Maps & Navigation (offline satnav) - I am going to try this one also to see which I prefer.
VLC for watching local video (note: problems with network SMB at present due to only supporting smb1 - Aug 2018).
Duolingo - Free and excellent for learning a different language.
