Z3 Compact - magnetic port failed

A couple of days ago I noticed my Z3C wouldn't charge via the magnetic port. It looks like one of the connection pins is missing. There's a raised plastic bump where it was. The phone is coming up to 2 years old. According to the Sony Xperia account info, it's still in warranty.

If it goes in for repair, I'd consider having the battery replaced as well as it has lost capacity.

I started the repair process through the Sony site, but it seems to require the phone to be sent off in order to get a quote, after which it costs £20 to have it returned, even if you decide not to proceed with the repair.

Can anyone advise what the costs are likely to be for this repair and battery replacement? I'm assuming the mag port repair won't be covered by warranty, according to info from elsewhere.

Thanks.

You can use the search bar for other reports on similar situations.

Just wondering were you using a non-sony magnetic cable?

Thanks for the reply. I had searched and could not find my exact problem.

I have been using a 3rd party magnetic adapter. I have found reference to the whole port being loose, or pulling out with an adapter. That isn't what has happened here, the port/magnet is still secure in the phone, but there is only one metal contact pin, or pad (the top, positive one). I can't work out what has happened to the other. These aren't subject to any tension, the adapter contacts are simply held against them by the magnet.

I'm not necessarily expecting a warranty repair, and obviously the battery fade will be classed as normal wear and tear, just would like to know the costs up-front, so I can decide whether it's worth repairing in the first place.

The only non-warranty price listed is for screen replacement.

I don't expect to have to pay £20+ to find out what Sony will charge for what should be a standard repair /replacement job.

I see, if it's only the battery and it won't be covered by warranty (I've seen issues with third party magnetic cables that pull out the magnetic port), I would just repair it myself, as for pricing, I'll see if I can find something posted on the forum but since this is a global user based forum it might not be the same since it's not only the battery that has to be repaired.
