My W995 has no problem connecting to any wireless network I've tried it with so far - WPA and open networks have connected, and the green wireless icon pops up. However, I can't use the connections to access the internet and when I check the information, the IP address is always beginning 169, so the phone couldn't get an IP address. Is there a problem with DHCP on this phone?
I have tried manually setting an IP address, gateway and DNS addresses and this has NOT solved the problem. The green wireless icon still pops up but I cannot use the connection to access the internet.
I ran the update service yesterday so I think the software is up to date.
How can I fix this please? Thanks.
If you go to Settings-Connectivity-Internet settings-Allow local conn.: This should be turned on for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB connections to function.
Thanks, but I have already done that and it hasn't made any difference. It has worked briefly since I first posted, but I don't know why because I didn't change anything, and it isn't working right now. The PC I am posting from is connected wirelessly to the same router, so the router isn't the problem.
You can try a Master Reset, as this should clear up any glitches in the software that may be causing the problem. It will also return the settings back to the original factory settings (which should be correct for Wi-Fi connectivity), so remember to back your phone up if you decide to this.
I have tried that. I even did an update again to be sure. I've got 1215-7995 R1HA035 091210. Tried wifi with manual and automatic IP setting. With automatic it again ended up with a 169... IP address. With manual IP the IP was set properly but I still got 'communication error' when trying the bundled browser.
In that case, contact/return to SE for repair.
I'm back again because exactly the same thing happened to me today and the problem was fixed like this: switch off WiFi on mobile and also shut down & switch off the power to PC&Router.Leave it all off for a few minutes, then switch everything back on and reconnect your mobile to the router via Wi-Fi.
Hope this works for you as well.Of course, you can only do this with your home router or one you have physical access to.
I have exactly the same problem and none of the above works. My phone is brand new, it connects to my wifi but there is no internet connection just the the error. I have searched the Internet and other people have the problem but no solution. What do we do? Is this a Router problem? I have a LinkSys that works fine with the lap tops and netbooks. Is this something to do with WPA2 security?
The security on my router is WPA Personal, as are most protected networks, and have no problem using the internet over Wi-Fi on the W995 either with my router or at hot-spots, except for that one time I mentioned previously.I can't see it being a router security setting issue and, since software and master resets don't work, it's more likely to be a hardware defect in some of the W995's which should be covered by the warranty. However, it might still be worth trying the "repair phone" option via PC suite, just in case!
I experience a similar behavior on my W995 (operator 3-branded).
No problem connecting to a WiFi, but the phone will only use the mobile network if I use the built-in browser.
But if I use another application (Opera Browser, Facebook app, google maps, e-mail etc.) the WiFi connection is beeing used.
After quiting any of the above mentioned applications, I am able to use the WiFi with the built-in browser.
I'm able to test this, since I have bad (none) reception in my apartment:
Connected to WiFi, no network: not able to use the built-in browser (no problem using a 3rd-party browser)
Connected to WiFi, with network: able to use the built-in browser, but with mobile network
