touchscreen calibration

Last night everything was fine.I listened music then put the phone to the charger. At the morning my touchscreen was weird. When I touch the upper screen, it’s read about 1 cm below the touched point, but the screen on menu bar (below) was ok. And then I tried to go to setup wizard in order to calibrate the screen but the result was interesting:when I push the point 1 and 4 at the circle, there was a message on screen: too far from the point 1 or 4, but the screen for point 2 and 3 are still working accurately. At the touchscreen test on service menu every point of the screen is working but on the vertical the screen acts as if there is a function present which is not lineer.

ex.

if x is the real point (physical, touched),

and y is the point the phone thinks:

the function is like

y=(x^2-constant)/x

y min = x min

y max = x max - 1,2 cm

I wonder the problem is hardware originated or software originated? According to this answer I will reset the phone or send it to a repair center.

Could you help me to fix my touch screen problem for my Sony Ericsson M950i? Thanks a lot.

Hi Baysal,

Difficult to say if the problem is hardware or software based. You're best to try a reset and software update before looking at repair options, just to rule out what you can.

Thanks for the reply,

After using update utility nothing changed.I searched a lot and find it is a common problem for SE touchscreen phones like m600,P1i etc.And I decided to change digitizer by myself and order 2 oem pieces of them (second one is a spare for the future or in case of something happened to the first one).If everything is good on electronic parts I hope changing touchscreen digitizer will solve my problem.

I will write about the last situation for anybody ,like me, need the information.

Hi,

I got the digitisers today.I changed the problemous one,and the first digitiser was ok (luckily).Everything back to normal now.Saved the second one to the future touch screen problems. It costs 10 USD each (thank Chineese).I will be more carefull about screens after that like applying too much pressure to clean etc.The operation was easy.If anyone have questions about this type of problem I can help.

Thanks...

Hi baysal,

Could you please tell me how much a digitizer costs for SE G900?

How to replace the digitizer for ourself?

Hi,

I changed my se w950 digitizer by myself. It was so easy. I used only a 6 torq and a regular screwdriver. Use a plastic thing to open the case, like a credit card or similar. And using a  tweezer is a good idea. If you search the google you can find many disassembly/assembly guides and/or videos for your phone.

The digitizer for w950 cost me 10 dollars in Turkey, but as I mentioned the digitizer in fact costs more than that if you don't search enough. I found P1i,m600,w950 etc. are using the same type of digitizer. And I picked up the cheapest one (for P1i I think). They are all same but the salesmen are tricky...!

I think you can find them in your country or ebay. And if they are cheap enough  I suggest you to buy more than one in case of a problem and for future usage.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Search google for a good disassembly/assembly guide.

2. Search google for spare part compatibility list for your phone.

3. Find a cheap and compatible digitizer from net, ebay or local shops.

4. Be brave and be carefull and begin disassembly your phone. The bonus is you can clean the inner parts in this operation...

5. Install the digitizer and begin to assembly.

6. Calibrate and test the new digitizer.

7. If everything is ok then congralutions.

8. If something is wrong then check the phone.

PM. As a last minute warning: if you are not sure what you are doing than don't do these change by yourself. Get help from a skilled person. I am a physics engineer and I have been working in IT sector maybe ten years or more as a service/support engineer.Good luck.
