After continually being disappointed by the X10 product due to lack of features that almost all other competing android phones already have as well as plan to support, I'm returning all X10 phones I have purchased and switching to another company.
Not only has Sony Ericsson not listened to close to a year of complaints about the lack of features that are either possible with updates or impossible because they did not correctly anticipate and evaluate the market and the current features that competitors offer, but they also continue to disappoint by not offering good support for the customers that have invested their money (and time) into their X10 product. There is no reason why a company with the resources and experience that Sony Ericsson possesses should even offer an android phone that is not consistently being kept up-to-date. Many customers, new and returning, continue to voice their opinions and disappointment about the Xperia X10. Still SE has NOT ONCE delivered on any major feature that should of already been available from the launch of the X10 product in a timely manner and even after a long wait in the United States for the phone to be available, there still were no changes to the phones dives in low volume for media or in call communication, support of Adobe Flash, battery life, and version of their watered down Android system along with other features. This is not even including the fact that an easy and common sense feature in the hardware (multi-touch) is not supported.
After so much frustration and time invested in use of the X10 phone, work-arounds, and research into what little Sony Ericsson has done to pacify customers, I am returning all X10 phones my family, friends, and company have purchased in lieu of a device and company that actually knows, listens, and attempts to offer what their current and future customers want.
I would like to reach out to all other unhappy X10 owners in a mutual understanding that we were mislead and have wasted our time in SE, and hope that we can inform all of our personal contacts to not follow our mistake in believing that the X10 would be upgraded to 2.1 (or even 2.2) with 16m colors, Flash support, and other fixes. I also wish those who are currently satisfied with the X10 luck with their investment as I no longer can afford to spend my company and personal time in this vain device or manufacturer.
Sincerely,
J. Moore

Well, I bought my X10 5 days ago and honestly if I had read the forum before I think I would not buy it.
I think it would be better to spent some more money for an HTC.
I thought that because is the latest SE phone and it was expensive 520euro it will be a phone that I will have it for years and SE will invest on it a lot but after reading your posts I feel very disappointed too.
I took some photos 3 days ago and I was wondering why no flash? What is going on? Faulty phone? Then I came here and I read "Oh you know, no flash support until android 2.1". Come on who does that? Who sells you a product that is not fully functional?
Did you try enabling the "Audible Touch Tones"? Enable that and go to the dialer. The sound comes after you press the number which is very confusing.
I used to have the LG Viewty and the same thing happen with that phone too. LG promised with updates and changes that never came. LG just moved on...
I think SE is doing the same thing. Just moving on. If you bought it bad luck then.
I wish I could return it too and get my money back.
Android 2.1 will be released this month.
When this month? With only ten days to go there isn't much of this month remaining.
not that long to wait then
but obviously it won't affect you because you will have sold your phones by then.
I never get the point of these rants (please excuse me if you don't consider your post a rant). They achieve nothing because they are directed at the wrong people.
No support for Adobe Flash was never a Sony problem, it was down to the o/s. You bought the phone with that o/s then complain about it afterwards - that's a bit like moving next to an airport and complaining about the noise from planes.
Sony didn't water down Android 1.6 they actually added a lot to it and nade it work a whole lot better than it would have done just running the basic android software. It was never going to have multi touch - so, you didn't read the press releases or pre-release reviews then?
Sony has released a couple of updates and are rolling out the big one in the next week or so - I can only assume that when you bought the phone you were happy with it so why complain now? It is still the same phone that does exactly what it did when it first came out of the box with a few tweaks from the updates. Just because other phones do more doesn't make your x10 any worse. How are you going to tell all of your family and friends tro return their phones? Did you buy them for all of those people? If one of my friends told me I had to return my phone because he wasn't happy with his I would tell him to **** off!!!
You say you have had your X10 'close to a year' I thought it was only released in March/April - in the UK it was late March which is only just 6 months, that's nothing like 'close on a year'.
If you want to complain, why not do it direct to Sony themselves and keep it factual.
If you bought the wrong phone for you (no multi touch, no adobe flash, short battery life) then that isn't Sony's fault and none of those things are unique to the X10.
Good luck with your new phone(s) but posts like this don't do you any favours
I ahve to say that your disappointments are real for an average consumer. If you came in expecting this and that, not knowing what SE has always been doing, you are very likely to be very very frustrated by their products.
Honestly, the othr groups are no better, but at least some are fairly commited to rolling out half-baked firmware which, more or less, creates their own problems. Then they moved onto the next upgrade and leave the problems fairly alone, hoping the next upgrade will restore the features and functions to the recommended levels.
Who am I to say all these? I've own almost all the major flagship products from all the mobile phone manufacturers, in the last ten years. In fact I would say I am quite out of touch with the simpler and cheaper devices they re make. There is one exception to this. I generally don't buy Motorola.
However, good luck. I wish you well. Just please don't fall into the bottomless pit that is the Apple i(diot's)Phone, i(diot's)Pad, etc.
The flash that has been referred to is the flash video player from Adobe. Not available until we get the 2.2 update
Don't think they can do much with the camera light, don't know what SE were thinking when they put that on the fone and even worse WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING BUYING THE DAMN THING!!!!
Vignette uses the camera light/flash automatically (it's also a much better camera app than the standard one) - so that's a software issue that sony will probably address
yes, their pride might just be at stake here.
