I presume the hardware is identical across the globe, with perhaps software versions being different and they can be updated from anywhere.
why would a company take a gamble with reputation by not affording the replacement of a 600 dollar phone.
the person has had the phone refreshed with new sofware from Sony's service centre.
problem persists..
Sony performed a substandard fix that left the customer with a phone that smelt of heated contacts....
for heaven's sake...give the guy another phone.... do you think we go around destroying our devices and then claim it under warranty..
even if we did, the percentage loss is not worth the bad publicity and we would all rather have our phones up and running than put false claims in and lose contact
with our friends.
Sony you have a great phone....dont wreck the deal with poor warranty service on top of slow sofware updates...I'm trying to understand you with the slow software ...but really...
is the cost of a phone worth the extra bad press ????????????
Look, I would too, if my company isn't run by the accountants. They spoilt all of our fun since the 80s.
Anyway, your comment just shows that you are still thinking like a consumer. It's not an insult, and it is not wrong. But the perspective from the other side is quite different.
Having worked in the mobile industry 9 years this is pretty much standard accross the board. If you check the paperwork with your phone (or indeed many of your electrical applications) you will find goods are only covered by the warrenty for the country you are in. We imported some white psps when they first launched in the UK and there were non, and we had to tell the customer there was no warrenty when we gave them away as they were not uk stock...
that is indeed the normal practice.
Again, just because every one is doing something, that does not make it right.
They teach us this at kindergarden or first year of schooling,
sadly both our politicians and ourselves often fall into this flawed way of thinking.
I think this is a way for sony to step above the crowd and do the right thing. They may even win some customer loyalty.
can you imagine the advertisements they could place....."At Sony, we believe that....."
hey that's a good idea..
lets write a few one liners for Sony on this...
LOL.... start a new topic!
I would guess that the fact all companies do it means that its the law somewhere maybe...... however if you want to take on every single company that does it, good luck on that one, you might need a lot of box files for all the paperwork....
Hi Neets,
I don't really agree that because every company does it that ... its law somewhere..what law would mandate that restriction of a warranty geographically ??
laws are there to protect society, not to restrict its returns policy ..lol...
watching talking heads interview on abc television right now... and Richard Branson from Virgin recounted a story of how his company board member took him asside and said
you dont know the difference between gross and net do you.. and he sheepishly said yes. Well the accountantt explained it to him using a fish and a net analogy and then Richard said...ahhhh I got it.
Now the talking heads show attests that this guy is extraordinarily successful and Richard say's ....
hmmm what is business, with a smile on his face, .. Business is doing something that is in demand and doing it better than your competitors....NOT THE SAME.
this being the case, it is the business that steps above the mark and does the right thing, that will be a success.
so... the fact that every other company is doing this, just means they are not standing out from the crowd in a good way.
It also means that they have not learned that the richest men in the world does the opposite to what everyone else is doing..
Buying and selling realestate and share is a case in point.
Richard branson created the most successful record company in the world... tubular bells, sexpistols etc..
he did things differently.. he exported records to sell in another country and then had a big run in with the law over tax differences.
so he opened 30 stores in a short space of time to pay the tax man 3 times the amount of tax that he had avoided..unwittingly. If it was not for the
intercountry tax problems and sale of record...his business might not have grown as fast to pay the bill to the tax man.....
He made all his business success by pushing the limits and not being constrained by what EVERONE else is doing.
Come on Sony !! Step up to the mark and be known for doing the RIGHT thing rather than hiding in the crowd....Other Companies will have to follow.
Richard Branson has the right idea !!
ideology and actual situations are, than often, two very different thing. Richard Branson is a lucky guy, very very lucky guy. That's all I can say.
That said, Sony used to be like that, until the 90s where profits outweigh consumer sentiments. Notice that many aging companies does exactly this, and quite a few of them no longer exist. It's the way the business world works. Unfortunately.
