I reinstalled the software at the service centre and still, the signal fluctuates, and the service centre guys are trying to convince me that this is ok since the phone calls are not cut.
i am really very disappointed from this phone and from Sony Service Center in Egypt
that's normal, the signal will fluctuate all the time, that's on the network's coverage, go to settings > about phone > status > signal strength
I put my two SIM cards in my Samsung mobile and the signal doesn't fluctuate !!!
sony Service said that after reinstalling the software, this problem will be gone, and it still exists.
why is this Sony device particularly have such problem?
There's no standardisation as to what the bars actually mean so the Sony may be more sensitive to noise changes than the Samsung, at least as far as the bars go.
As long as you are not dropping calls then the signal is fine. If you want an exact reading of your signal strength follow @uliwooly's advice to see the dB reading.
Settings > About Phone > Status > SIM Status > Signal Strength.

I did purchage Xperia XA1 on 02.07.17 evening (I think made mistake), I was diehard fan of Sony mobiles but this time I think shouldnot have purchaged XA1. In market there are lot of mobile which gives various feature in 20K but I choose Sony Mobile for its built quality compromising with some specifications like its small screen size,not full HD display, etc.
The day I purchaged very next day mobile stop giving any network signal, and its continue fluctuating from signal to no network, on top of that mobile not letting operate any option continually its getting minimized automatically. I took mobile to vashi (navi mumbai) sony store to chek for this. After cheking it they found some problem with the handset. By seeing this issue in one day old phone I request that I donot want Sony mobile anymore give my money back, but store refuse to refund and assure me they will replace the mobile with new one after showing it in service centre. Service centre strate away did format the mobile and told them (store person) to give the handset to return it to me.
But I am not satisfied with mobile performane yet its network bar continuosly fluctuating up and down and battery also draning fast.
If Sony really want customer to get satisfy they should at least replace the phone with new one. Its really very frustating you purchase new phone and it start showing its colour very next day.

Hi Sumit , i have exactly the same issues, including the automatic minimise of mobile network settings. The havy bug is, that the signal is very very small ( just one bar) or completely down.
Do you have a solution in the meantime?
