Radio Only Works When Screen is Off

Only properly used the radio today but could only get it to play if I turned the screen off. That's fine if you know the station frequency but if you are wanting to search for a station and don't know the frequency you can't do it. How strange is that.

Try the following steps:

1. Open Google Search

2. Open Settings

3. Open "Voice"

4. Open "OK Google" detection

5. Swith "From any screen" off

Yep, that works. Turned OK Google from any screen to off and radio works through speaker as well as headphones.

This is an issue that Sony must surely address.

This fixed the problem for me, thanks priv! :

The direct cause should be "OK Google from anyscreen" and this probem is across all Z series.

1. FM Radio mutes itself everytime when phone recording is on, because FM sound occupies the input path, and it assumes you always want to record from microphone.
2. OK Google from anyscreen will turn on recording all the time.
3. When screen off, OK google service stops and FM Radio unmute itself.
4. Also if you open TrackID FM will unmute too, because it needs to record from FM radio, so the muting mechanism is not triggered.

I think this is obviously a serious conflict since FM radio should not be broken by any important builtin function, but unfortunately I don't know how to feedback.

If FM Radio is your higher priority, turn off OK Google from any screen and the problem will gone.

Hello I have a problem with fm radio apk... It only works when I turn off screen. When turn the screen back on radio stops immediately!! Probably it is a hug and hopefully they will fix it soon with an update but it is really annoying not to be able to use your phone while listening some music!
Anyone has same problem?

Hi daltzi

Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Something you could try is going into the Settings > Apps > scroll across to All > scroll down to FM radio > tap FM radio > tap Clear data if possible, if not tap on Force stop.

I do hope this helps, keep us updated.

Googles "ok google" feature can cause audio problems in FMRadio.

Try disabling the feature in: Settings > Accounts > Google > Search > Voice > "ok google" detection.
