I've just moved up to the 2.1 update. I hadn't backed up my phone and so I basically had a clean phone. After re-downloading all my apps from the market, I tried to set up the sync to pull in my contacts. Set my SE login and password but everytime I sync, no contacts are loaded to the phone. I tried setting up a second account, with server www.sonyericcson.com and my username and password. Still will not pull in my contacts. When I look at the status bar and click on the sync status it says invalide server name for both the SonyEml account and my second account. What am I doing wrong, or how can I get the sunc function to clearout and start again - if the latter, what is the correct server address. Do I use the same username and password for the account and for the contacts settings? It's very frustrating!!
did you get this working...I notice your post is from november
the server address on my X10 phone under Account Settings is http://sync.sonyericsson.com/sync/
it is greyed out however...ie. can not be changed
Solution is in FAQ ....
Q:Can I change my synchronization password?
A: The synchronization password used in your phone cannot be changed. The synchronization password is not the same as the one used to log in to this website. If you need to change the sync settings, you can deactivate the synchronization from the My Account page and send the new settings to the new phone by following the sync wizard.
you need to go to SE/My Account page and cancel sync...then add you phone model again and it will scramble your username and password again....however it will start working again....
key is that "The synchronization password is not the same as the one used to log in to this website"
Could you clarify.
I go to SE and to My Account. I click on Disable Account and confirm/save.
I then Add phone to Sync. But then I get directions to go to the phone and "tap Sync-Get Started". If I click on Sync it just takes me Accounts and Sync Settings. I'm not sure where to go from here. Am I supposed to select Remove account and then start again? If I do that it warns me that I will lose all my contacts etc.
The instructions on the web site do not seem to match what is on the phone?
sorry for being vague
login to SE website on your PC...go to Settings (part of top menu which included Contacts, Calendar, etc)....click on 'Disable Sync'....this deletes all the settings/passwords for the current sync.
go to Home page of SE website and half way down click on Sync Phone....here select your phone model as you did the first time you set up sync...this step is where the new scrambled password gets created.
you then get instructions (which I agree are poorly written) to go to your phone home page...click on Sync in the list of apps....on my X10 this brings up a page with General Sync Settings on top and Manage accounts on the bottom...your old Sony Ericsson account is listed here (probably with a gmail acct)...click on the SE account and on the next page click Remove Account....this will remove all data (which you can not access/sync anyway...you should have your contacts saved using Backup and Restore function from SE so you can restore from there later)....this gets rid of the old scrambled password/sync settings.
From there you should get the same Manage Account screen with "Add Account" at the bottom. Click on Add Account and select Sony Ericsson...which then defaults to the login with the SE website user and pass automatically input...Login and you should be good to go with the new password sync functional.
from there, the only problem I have had is that sync only works in one direction...i.e. from PC to phone only....which is more of an Import than a sync since differences on the phone are not uploaded to the PC/SE server
Have managed to get it to sync now, but I get the opposite. If I make changes in the contacts on the PC they do not get imported. I had to Restore my contacts and these were then sent back to the PC, but any subsequent changes on the PC are not returned. This used to work pre Android 2.1 - changes would be synced both ways.
Actually it seems to be syncing both ways now. All is fine. Thanks for your help.
Just a point to raise with Support/Developers. The contacts layout on the Desktop does not match the phone when you edit. On the phone you have a middle name entry and you can't edit that on the desktop.
glad it is working your end....still not both ways at my end
I can create a Contact called From PC on my PC and it syncs down to phone fine.
I can then delete the From PC contact on the phone and that syncs fine by deleting on PC
1. However, any contacts created on Phone do not sync up to PC....can you do this?
2. Please advise if you have any settings showing on phone at Sync/AccountSettings (this is where the scrambled username appears) ..on bottom there is Data and Syncrhonization with Conttact, Calendar and Bookmarks.....in any of those 3, do you have a user and pass showing?: I was wondering if that is required for uploads from phone.
3. SE says it will sync Notes to X10. Can you do this? On mine Notes is not an option anywhere...even though I downloaded a Notes app
thanks.
...edit....
re 2. above, I notice that if you add a user and pass, click Save, and then to Sync, the user and pass you added are deleted...so....that is not the reason that I can not upload
in FAQ it says most phones will not sync from the phone unless the Contacts are in phone memory and not just on sim card....I restored my contacts from memory so they must be there....still will not upload/sync to SE server
I can add contacts on either the phone or the pc and they will be synced in the opposite direction. Same happens if I edit or delete contacts - the changes are also reflected in the opposite direction from where they are made. I checked my account settings and for each of contact, calendar etc no username and password is set, these fields are blank. Thining about it, that is probably why it wasn't working before for me, because I think I ended up adding data to these fields. As for Notes, I don't use that app so can't comment about the syncing of Notes.
final solution for me was to not use SE sync icon at all...and therefore not set up SE sync account in the first place
turns out my problem was not realizing that droid 2.1 has groups and that I was adding to Phonebook group Contacts instead of SE group/gmail group and threrefore was not syncing up to SE server...
I decided to keep it simple and only have one account...that being the gmail account since it is required anyway...clicking the SE sync icon requires a second acct which I do not need/want
now I just use the gmail/google contacts, calendar and email and it updates within 5 seconds in both directions automatically...i.e. no schedule to set and no manual sync to think about
this of course requires that you have Background Data and Auto-sync checked under Accounts & Sync under Settings...which you would need checked for SE sync anyway
