Phone and screen care.

I have just got my x10 and was wondering if the anti-scratch surface on the screen really works over time, or should i get a screen protector!?

What protective accesories are available and what is the best place to get them, I have already contacted my nearest phone store and they dont stock any.

Has anyone scratched their sceen after use over time and wished they had protected it?

Hi. I always try to use screen protecters bescause although the screens may be scratch resistant, they are crertainly not scratch proof! I use These ones, as i'm in the uk and they work brilliantly. They can be a bit tricky to get on at times tho, but it's worth persevering. I removed one from my phone a few weeks ago to replace it, but had to rush out before i had the chance to and during my half hour trip into town, I wound up with a nasty gouge out of my screen, so I, for one definitely recommend them. And they aren't exactly gonna break the bank!

My X10 came with a screen protector in the box. Don't you have it? Isn't it a standard issue?

I would suugest you either use the leather pouch or buy yourself a flip case for better protection.

DEFINITELY use screen protector.  Screen is not scratch proof.

For the case, I would recommend TPU case.  They are better quality than Silicon case, they don't attract lint and hair.  They are more durable.  They provide some shock absorbsion.  I dropped my phone a couple of times from waist height and the phone is not scratched or dented at all.

They are cheaper than leather case.

hightly recommend TPU case.

Your phone already has a screen protector fitted - straight out of the factory.

before you say 'no it hasn't' unless you have removed it - yes you have.

Take a much closer look around the edge of teh screen and you will see a fairly thick plastic film which doesn't quite meet the edge of the glass

That isn't as tough as the glass underneath so it will scratch. The glass underneath will be less prone to damage but I'd use a screen protector anyway

Some regions seem to get a spare one with the phone, if you didn't I'd spend my money here

Yes, I noticed thay yesterday.  I did get a bit of plastic when I bought a gel cover thing for the phone, but it seemed a bit thick, so i am relying on the phone bouncing from the corner of the silicon case when I drop it.  I haven't tried it undewr a bus yet.

Does anyone have any tips for keeoing the screen free of streaks, or is that just something one has to put up with on a touch-screen phone?  Mine looks disgusting in the wrong light.  I try to remember to carry a microfibre cloth with me, but I usually forget.  Would lens cleaner (for camera lenses) be a good thing to clean the screen with, as long as you don't apply too much and get the gubbins inside wet...?

camera lens cleaner will work but it will just get sticky again before long - wipe with a cloth/Tshirt etc and it's back to new.

Remember, you are only cleaning the screen protector not the screen itself

That's true - thanks!  And I would need a cloth to clean the screen with camera lens cleaner anyway, of course...!

How long has it been since you got the phone, wihtout noticing the screen protector?.....  If such is the case, try cleaning it with a bit of alcohol-base cleaner on the screen before using the clear plastic. Use a very mild one and clean with a CLEAN/NEW micro-fiber cleaning cloth (I notice a spectacles cleaning cloth works best, and they are free). then make sure to fit the plastic on at once (I know... easier said then done). Spray anothr layer of milder alchol-base cleaner on the fitten screen/proctector preventive measure.
