Hi, can anyone hel? I (foolishy) had to restore my phone last week. I set up my email account again. I can receive emails ok, but cannot set up the outgoing mail. I get error message 'cannot connect to server'. I put in the exact info that I put in before but not working. My provider is Nildram. They've been taken over by Opal and now Talk Talk. Have been on their support site and can't find anything that might help. Anyone out there with the same problem?
Try this for your outgoing SMPT server if you have POP 3 incoming settings working
smtp.nildram.co.uk
If that doesn't work have a look at this post and see if any of the SMTP settings there make it work for you
Hi, have tried it, along with the suggestions on the other thread, but still doesn't work. So frustrating as it did before and the pop3 one still does receive emails. Any more suggestions please.
Many thanks.
Check your outgoing settings and if the Requires Sign In box is ticked then un tick it and try the different SMTP settings to see if one works
Have tried that with all settings and still no luck!
What are the POP settings that work for you
Menu > Settings > Wireless & Controls/Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > Delete any WAP account that may be present, in reality there should only be 2 APN's within this section Internet and MMS.
You may need to clarify with your network to confirm which is WAP and which is Full unrestricted internet as there is a big difference.
Give this a go first and come back to me with the results.
Hi, I've tried all suggestions and contacted Nildram (now Talk Talk), Incoming mail still same and OK but they gave me outgoing server as smtp-auth.gotadsl.co.uk. It said to enable authentication of device. I'm not sure what I should be doing to do this.
Thanks in anticipation.
So when you you replaced the old outgoing server address with the new one, there was zero change? Was "enable authentication" an error message you saw?
On your outgoing settings tick the box that says requires sign in then try it.
