Memory Stick 8GB Limit?

I have a W715, and since I listen to a lot of music I also got an 8 GB Memory Stick. This stick is now full, but I still want more songs on my phone (I don't like iPods or mp3-players because I don't want to carry them around in addition to my phone). Therefore I want to buy a bigger memory stick, but in the product information it says the following:

Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™) support (up to 8 GB)

Actual free memory may vary due to phone pre-configuration

Is the Memory Stick size really limited to 8 GB? What happens if I insert a bigger one, for instance 16GB?

You can try a 16GB memory stick but there's no guarantee it will work properly. i.e., it might slow your phone down.
