I have a Sony Ericsson W810i given to me by my grandchild, the phone works perfectly and is fitted with a 512MB memory card. As I am becoming more proficient with the phone I find that I needed more memory. Many web sites will tell you many different capacities, so rather than make a mistake I emailed Sony Ericsson asking how large a memory card I could fit to this phone. They answered that the maximum was 2GB. I purchased a SONY 2GB memory card but the phone will not recognise it. I will admit that I am not the most knowledgable person but I did switch the phone off before attempting to change the cards. Mindfull of static electricity problems, I was very carefull NOT to touch the contact pads on the card. I would be gratefull for any help that is given to rectify this problem.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/mobilephones/specifications/w810i?lc=en&cc=us Well, according to the specs on this link, your phone can take up to 4GB of extra memory. If you click on the support section of this page you will find the software you need for the phone, inluding the SE Update service programme which you may want to run on your phone. As for the memory card you bought, you might want to format it on your PC using a USB card reader since your phone doesn't recognise it, and then see whether it's recognised. Before this, you can also try cleaning the memory card contacts and any dust in the phone's memory slot.Let me know what happens.
Many thanks for your reply. After trying many number of times to insert the 2GB memory card and getting nowhere, on one occasion it actually did recognize the card. After every attempt I replaced the original 512MB card to make sure it was recognised. This led me to believe that there was a problem with the connections at the bottom of the card slot on the phone body. I rectified this by inserting a very fine piece of plastised paper behind the 2GB card to increase the pressure on the contact fingers. This in fact cured the problem. Thank you for taking the time to help with this problem.
