Internet Usage

O2 have changed the bolt on I had from unlimited usage of internet to 500mb per month. The row I had with thim was of no benefit. Anyway, in the space of 3 days I have used 100mb already & havent really been using browser or downloading (I did obtain album artwork for transferred music files on Mediascape tho...). Is it possible that Timescape updates of Twitter & Facebook are draining my monthly allowance? I would check emails on the phone too. Havent been watching You Tube or anything like that.

Any ideas?

It strikes me that 1gB a month, which is about what you're heading for, is rather a lot.  I use none at all, so am not much help, but it might be worth turning off automatic updates for Facebook, Twitter and so on, and just updating them with wifi, if that's practicable for you.  Fetching album artwork would certainly have some effect, too, of course.  I update mine on the computer and transfer it over, but then I'm a cheapskate...

Thanks for advice. On checking the status bar my phone continually seems to have data traffic ongoing so something is connected... - I have updated Twitter & Facebook not to update automatically. Is it possible it is an App I have added or Email set up??

Have checked other forums & seems to be a lot of people who are getting hit with big data usage even when phone not being used. I have concluded only way to control it is to turn off data connection on the phone when not required - a pain in the backside but has to be done. Unless someone has the solution.

Was ok before O2 decided to limit allowance!!

Yes, I'd be inclined to turn off the data, unless you discover what is eating all the data.  I suppose it could be an app or email, especially, perhaps, if you have lots in your inbox and it loads all of it each time you look at it.  Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any easy way of determining which apps are running at any given moment.

I do hope that someone else is able to offer something rather more helpful!

My mobile is continually looking for updates and I see the data is being sent and received and I do go online regularly on it but I haven't used it for Twitter or Facebook and album art says you need to use wi-fi to get. I am also on O2 and have the usage limit of 500mb but since the beginning of the month my internet usage has been 129mb. You haven't been dowloading or watching video's have you?

02 Announced this months ago, you should have told you / read terms and conditions that it was a promotion and that it was to end in september / october. Anyone signing up to a phone / contract during june or after was limited to either 500mb or 1 gigabyte tariff but was unlimited to setember. People before this are still entitled to unlimited web bolt on for now which they used to give users till people started abusing it and downloading massive amounts (3gig faire use i think it is). It actually worked out better to buy a phone sim free than change to a new tariff. As on the tariff i would have wanted i would have only got 500 mb which is nothing in this day and age. I dont see much point in worrying about extra costs and getting emails and texts telling your downloading to much etc.
