HELP - Keyboard Questions

I'm struggling with my Sony X10 keyboard and need help!  Is there no way to set my Standard Keyboard options so that typing words such as I'm, she's, there's....I don't always have to manually add the '.  Also, having a hard time with the small keyboard letters, is there not a better keyboard app I can download? Prior to this phone, I had a Blackberry, texting was so quick & easy, I'm really struggling with this keyboard!!

Please help!

Thanks.

J.

that's actually the dictionary learning function. if you use the dictionary enough, it will elarn your typing pattern and give you the nearest possible word. however, I realize it takes longer to look through the list then my typing it out.

There is a cool keyboard available from XDA Developer Jonasl called the HTC_IME keyboard.  I find it far better than the stock one.  I will give you the link below:-

You need the High Res version but not Froyo.

I followed this guide to installing it, which looks complicated but isn't.  Took less than 10 minutes!

If you use it and love it, there is also a modified version again on XDA but lets you build your own keyboard with whatever colours you want for your keys and functions etc.  I have had a black and blue one, a red and black and am currently on a pink and white.  I just change it up to fit with whatever Wallpaper I am using at the time.

A chap I know on one of my other forums uses a keyboard called Thick Buttons (?) which he said for his big man hands was far better:smileyhappy:

Thanks so much for your help, although I installed that exact keyboard last night (HTC IME), and never got to use it, I kept getting an error message and had no other option than to uninstall.  Have you had any problems with it?  After the fact, I installed Swift Key but not certain I really like it.  There's nothing I don't like about this phone, other than the keyboard, it would make things much simpler if I could find an easier keyboard!!

I can't see the image of the keyboard. Must login to see it.

What a shame, its a good keyboard.  If you still have the unzip copy on your PC your could give it another go but first download Linda file manager, which I found was better for installing .apk files, and use that to install it.  It sounds like the install didn't go right for some reason.  Did you go to your Locale & Text and select the keyboard from there too

I'm not a lover of Swift Key either really.  I also found the .apk for Swype but find that really a strange experience to use.

I think the keyboard needs at least two letters before it will suggest words, so typing "I'm" will always require a long press of the full stop key to bring up the apostrophe.

To add words to your list, long press on the word once you've typed it and it appears on the left of the screen, just above the keyboard.

Once last thing, I find the Android keyboard easier to use than the Standard keyboard.  That worth a try...?

I wonder if just typing "I" & "m" will provide an option for "I'm"

Update: Tried that yesterday and it did bring up the "I'm" word.
