Originally, my x10 doesn't cache google map.. I checked the cache size it's only 80Byte.. So without internet connection, this application rendered useless!
When I went to Taiwan last 2 weeks ago, I checked the Android Market and found out that there's an update for Google map and Street view.. I updated it to v5 and to my amaze, cache builds up and I can use it offline. The graphics also improved!!!
Now SE hits back.. they released an update and I (naturally) updated my phone.. now, my Google map no longer caches the map tiles...
Problem is.. I don't have any plan to go back to Taiwan until next 6 months. I no longer maintain a server in Taiwan which I could easily use as my gateway/proxy, for me to be able to update my map using Taiwan connection. I checked the Market for google map and still no updates for Philippines.
My google map is still v5.0, and as what I've said, after applying SE update, it no longer work.. I guess good appz will never be compatibled with SE's shltty programs...
Any suggestion???
I have finally updated my google map through my brother's company server in Taiwan.. I uninstalled the GMap update and connected our MNL network to Taiwan server and do update again. I don't know what version does x10 has for different countries but v5.0 is really d@mn good!!!
Anyway, if you have suggestions on how or what application to be used to make offline map accessible, please post. Google Map is powerful tool but it also needs to be supported by Manufacturer like SE.
Im still on version 4.4.0, how can i upgrade to v5 ?
What country are you from?
Anyway, the only country I know which has an update for Google Map and Streetview is Taiwan.. Not sure with other country though...
You need to use Taiwan internet to use their local Android Market. In my case, Im managing servers here and my brother lend me their office network for me to make a bridge.
Our x10 has no proxy settings, so you either need VPN tunnelling (server-server) to do this or wait for update to reach your local market.
Ok try this... Im surfing google and found out there's google Market (web based)!!!
Search for google map.. try the BETA. Shlt, I've been through lot of technical setups today and this popped up right on my face!
I'm on Maps 5.1.0(#5127)
Unlocked UK phone
Wow.. thought v5.0 (#5014) is the latest. Also, Im wondering, why when I check the application using market.android.com, it says latest is v5.10 and the "status" is INSTALLED? Does it means, Im running v5.1?? However, when I open the map and chose ABOUT, it says 5.0.0 (#5014)?
By the way, v5 isn't a BETA, the Navigation is.
Is there a way to get the Application Package so I could share and install it offline to other android phone?
