False advertiing - Sony Xperia Z3 is NOT waterproof at all

I'm just trying to understand how you can advertise that you can take pics underwaer with the Sony Xperia Z3.  This is UNLAWFUL and false advertising!!! my phone is brandnew - and now it doesnt work anymore. I cannot use the  touchscreen and my screen is now completely black.  I had to book my phone in for repairs and while i was at the store I wasnt the only one that sent my phone in for repairs with the same issue!!!

Really confused and disgusted!!!  I just hope that my phone gets replaced and that i DONT end up having to pay for it

Yours in total disappointment

Thank you for your replies. Rickard all my ports were closed. I have a silicone cover that protects my phone quite well. I had the phone under water for 30seconds cause I wanted to see if it actually works. The fact that people are even having problems with the phone should be of great concern. The biggest joke of all is that I was told there is no water damage when I took it in!! I just want the phone replaced no questions asked - I think it's only fair as it is still under warranty. I've always been a big fan of sony, hence the disappointment

Hi Rickard/Sony,

I am a very Loyal Customer of Sony and after saving my hard earned salary for months I was able to buy my new Xperia Z3 Compact, was very happy that day.

After using it for a month, a few days back I took it 2 centimeters under water for clicking some pictures and after a few shots and around 30-40 seconds later it turned off and never turned on again. Both the flaps were completely sealed and I made sure I did not submerge the phone completely under water. I immediately put it into a rice bowl for the entire day. After that I read every possible blog on internet and tried every possible thing under my power including phone repair through Sony PC Companion, but nothing seemed to make it work.

Finally disappointed with my inability to fix it, I took it to the below Sony Service Center and they looked into the phone and straight away told me that the indicators have turned pink/red and my phone is no longer covered under warranty.

After 30 minutes of trying to explain them on what exactly happened they asked me to call the Sony Customer Care at 1800-3000-2800, where I had a word with the gentleman who told me that since the indicators have turned pink/red, nothing can be done and he gave me the ticket number 15010203905 and directed me back towards the Sony Service Center Representative.

After that, the representative gave me an option to give the phone for replacement for a refurbished handset after charging an amount of 33% of the price of the original handset or they would give a new handset after charging an amount of 50% of the original price.

I told them I can’t afford that much and it was not my fault and there could be something that can be done to prove that I was not at fault.

They said this is the best they can offer and asked me to send an email to questions.in@suppport.sonymobile.com, which I will as soon as I am done writing this post.

I've had sleepless nights trying to fix this phone since last few days and I am highly disappointed regarding the response I got from both Customer care and Service Center.

I am not sure where to go or what else to do. All I can say that from where I am standing in this whole situation, it is NOT FAIR. Slightly_frowning_Face

Please guide or advice me what should I do next. Please!

Thank You,

Ricky 'Rakesh Khelani'

I'm sorry, but I can't believe many of people experienced or trying to destroy the image of this very best company. While my Xperia Z3 Compact works perfectly 'til now from the day I purchased this. Tested many times, submerged into a pitcher of cold water with ice many times, also dropped at the concrete floor by my son but still stay intact without any damages. Unlike from the opposite comments here. I think what have you purchased are not a genuine product of Sony.

Dear SBM, I'm myself a huge Sony fan and had amazing expreencies with my previous Sony products.

This is the first time I am facing somthing like this, I am just shaing my real life exprience and asking for help.

I would never want to pull Sony's name down. I still and always will be a die hard fan of Sony products.

Hi @Ricky-K , i'm really sorry to hear about your problem......is there a possibility that when you were trying to dry out your phone you accidently got the water indicators wet? This is the problem here i'm afraid, these indicators are the first things service technicians would look at to determine if the flaps were open even slightly to allow water in.....my only suggestion would be to contact them again, mention this & ask if you can have the phone Vacuum tested......if it fails the Vacuum test then it will show that it indeed was not waterproof to begin with & the indicators turning red were a mistake from yourself.

Worth a try & the best of luck :smileysmileythumbsup:

I am not sure if the service center I went to has Vacuum testing facility, but I'll still try.

Thank You for the suggestion Slightly_smiling_Face

You need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/
