I have set up the Email app on the phone to connect to my Yahoo! Mail account. However, the Email app always regards incoming messages as unread even if they have already been marked as read on the Yahoo! Mail account itself. This makes the unread messages count in the Email app inaccurate and unhelpful.
The Email app does not appear to possess a facility to mark several messages as read, the only way to bring the unread count down is to open each message in turn. Sometimes a message has to be opened twice in the app before it is regarded as read. I can delete more than one message on the phone, but this also deletes the messages on the Yahoo! Mail account, which is not what I want.
I have tried deleting the email account from the Email app and then reinstating it, but I now have an unread message count of 50 on the phone when all of these messages have, in fact, already been read on the Yahoo! Mail account.
I can also access the Yahoo! Mail account by means of the Yahoo! Mail app on the phone, but one of the disadvantages of this is that the icon for Yahoo! Mail does not possess an unread messages count at all.
Am I experiencing genuine limitations of the Email app on the phone, or is there something I am failing to do correctly? Thanks.
Is it a POP or IMAP server you are using to access emails with on your phone?
According to the settings on the phone, it is a POP server. I tried changing it at one point to IMAP, but the Email app refused to connect to it.
My iPod Touch, BTW, has no problem pulling through emails from the Yahoo! Mail account with the correct read/unread status (but I can only connect when I have WIFI).
http://uk.mobilemail.yahoo.net/welcome/ If you have a UK mobile number, try using this link for IMAP Yahoo email access on your phone. Also, I wanted to ask you whether your phone has any options in the email settings to download new emails (unread) only, or if not, what other options does it have?
Thanks.
Yes, I have a UK mobile phone, but when I get to the account login stage via the link you sent me, I enter the correct password only to get a message saying "Failed to initialize registration". It then says it is Loading but it never does.
There is no Email setting on the X10 Mini Pro to control how incoming messages are treated. The only available settins are Clear data, Clear cache, and Force stop. There is an option called Launch by default but it says No defaults set and there doesn't seem to be a way to set any.
Yes, I've just tried it too and get the same thing. It was working fine until a little while back, so I'll let you know if there's a work around.
Thanks for that.
I have done some searching on the web, and it appears that IMAP is no longer an option with btinternet accounts.
Interestingly, the iPod Touch gets the read/unread status of email messages right every time. But sadly it won't let me see its server settings for incoming email.
I don't know how it works on the mini's but I use an app called K9 free from the market on my X10 big. It seems to be a bit more customisable than the standard messaging app on the the phone. It might be worth giving a go, if you don't like it you can always ditch it but people have reported success with it when the were struggling a bit with the stock app.
