Camera & Jpeg compression

first of all...sorry for my bad english πŸ˜ƒ

I think the SE Xperia Neo has the same problem as the Arc... the high jpeg compression which reduces the picture quality.

Will there be a patch which enables us to adjust compression manually? That would be really nice πŸ˜ƒ

who knows, i have Neo for 5 days and am not going to wait if Sirs from SE will ever make such an update or fix... am just returning my phone tomorrow and will buy some other one, non SE .

Shame, the phone is except the camera very nice.

The compression is to allow pictures to be saved under 1MB, and yes it does drop the quality.

The recent update however allowed the camera to zoom in 8mp and 6mp.

Hopefully later updates would also change the compression or at least allow us to manually set the compression. *crosses fingers*

Yea but why is that, who asked that the files needs to be under 1MB?  My N8 makes stills at 7MB nobody cares, it has nice details.

SE comes with 8GB memcard in it, its not an issue if it would make stills even at 10MB i guess πŸ˜‰

Hope you got the point, I dont see any reason why the files HAVE TO BE under 1MB, i belive most of the users will not care about the filesize but they DO care about the low quality now.

I got your point, I wasn't saying that saving it under 1MB is a good thing, in fact I agreed with you. Guess I should've clarified that.

HOPEFULLY there will be a patch or update which allows us to change that.

Seriously, my old phone can take better pictures, and its 3.2MP. Come on Sony Ericsson, you can do better than this.

yep exactly, older phones with less Mpix can do it better Slightly_frowning_Face  shame for SE. the phone is otherwise really nice, i love it, but i will not wait for a patch that we all wish to come but SE may never release (at least i haven't heard any official information on that).  my phone is reset and packed into the box, am returning it today after work.

Great phone but compression really is disadvantage, I hope Xperia phones are top priority for SE and they will fix this issue and don not abandon the development.

I don’t understand why they did this stupid compression - for place saving? They wanted to do something good and on the contrary they did worse.

Please SE fix this BIG disadvantage.

I am also hoping that may be a future update will remove the high jpeg compression.

I missed the lost details in the photos. eg. when zooming in on a photo just taken the phot gets pixelated very quickly

I had a C905 phone and on average the file size is between 2MB and 2.4MB.

even with a cybershot camera at 6mp its between 2MB to 5MB

Another thing I noticed is that the phone is more prone to blurred shots if you accidentally shook it while taking a photo compared with the C905 even with the stabilisation feature activated or choosing the appropriate scene type

The C905 was more tolerant of hand shakes and the photo subject suddenly moving. eg, kids.

It could be due to the fact it is using a Xenon flash.
