Call Ended Immediately

Hi,

I have a Z3 Compact running Android 5.1.1 and am having the "Call Ended" problem.

I love the phone, button layout, size etc but this problem seems to be a common problem with the Xperia line and before I get rid of it, I'd like to try and solve it.

When I try to make a call, it often just beeps and displays call ended.  Usually after two or three tries, it works.  People have no trouble calling me, it's just me trying to make calls.

I've read up on the problem and have found tons of Xperia users with the same problem and the fix seemed to be disabeling VoLTE, which I would do, if VoLTE existed where all the fixes say it does. Slightly_smiling_Face  Ie... VoLTE is no longer located where all the tutorials say and I can't find any information anywhere that explains how to disable it in 5.1.1.

As additional information, text messaging sometimes fails as well and needs to be sent several times before the phone seems to start working again.

Any experienced advice would be appreciated.

Cheers!

My understanding that VoLTE is something offered by carriers, and is not necessarily included in a stock, unlocked phone. So perhaps your issue lies elsewhere. I had a similar issue and spoke to my carrier about it. They reset my SIM....haven't had issues with calling out since.

Here is some info on VoLTE -- looks to me like it's part of a carrier package for the phone...but I could be dead wrong

http://www.androidcentral.com/volte-how-use-it-and-why-you-should

One thing I did do though was ditch the stock dialer. I don't know if it makes a difference in call connection at all, but I find the stock 5.1.1 dialer weak at best....call logging stinks and integration for adding/editing contacts was limited. I am currently using Roacket Dial...has lots of features and frankly it's a tad busy for my tastes. It's got tons of configuation options, skins, etc. As I said, I doubt whether the dialer is going to help with your connection  issues.

Thank you very much for taking time to reply.

I'll try your solution and report back.

Cheers!

Update...

Called the carrier and had everything reset.  No help.

Loaded a new dialer and as expected, no hlep.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Another trouble shooting idea is to go to Settings... apps...all. Scroll down to phone and clear cache from the phone app. If this works...you should be set, however if you continue to have issues, you may have to do a software repair. I'll leave that recommendation to a Moderator.

Good luck.

Still the same Slightly_frowning_Face

I also backed up the device and then did a complete factory reset to no avail.

BTW... sony's definition of a Backup was different than mine... what a PITA!

Once again, thank you for taking the time!

Here are a few questions that might let someone (maybe even me) help you:

  1. Is this a carrier branded phone? If yes, which carrier?
  2. Do the hang ups occur all the time, in fringe areas (weak signal), or no particular time (it just $#%&s up)?
  3. Do the hang ups occur when using the dial pad, from the stock contacts application or third party contact application?

If you haven't already contacted Sony or the handset vendor, I would do so to check on warranty repairs and/or replacement.

Somewhere there has to be a software conflict -- I mean the dialer isn't  piece of hardware that can go bad. Not trying to make you do boatloads of work here, but did you try restoring to a factiry defaul (after back up) and NOT loading any apps you might have installed? [Someone help me here, can ccpeabody access the phone in SAFE mode?] Especially troublesome are any applications that need the phone state -- like Skype, Facebook Messenger, etc.

It stinks getting a new phone and having problems out of the box. The Z3 Compact is a really cool handset, but some of the issues we've been facing make people think again when choosing a handset brand.

Perhaps others might chime in...but I'll ask some of my handset wonks -- see what they say

Certainly appreciate all you help.

Spoke with Sony Support this evening.  As one would expect, mostly canned responses and no help.

I've been an Apple guy since leaving Blackberry several years ago and this is my first Android phone.  I really like the ease of Android, even if I'm a little concerned with security, and I absolutely love everything about the Z3 Compact phone, except the fact that you can't actually use it as a phone Slightly_smiling_Face  LOL!

Think I'll try a Samsung product next and see if I have better luck.

I'll throw the Z3 Compact in a box just in case a fix comes along in the future and I'll keep an eye out here.

Thanks again... much appreciated.

Hi Chris,

I had the same problem on my z3 compact.

Just solved it then.

It turns out that when I had LTE (4G) on, and I had no 4G reception, it would not let me call because it was exclusively looking for LTE signal.

So, go to settings>more>mobile networks>preferred network type and click on something with "LTE (preferred)" in its title. Then if it can't find LTE it will let you call on some other connection (eg 3G).

I hope this helps Slightly_smiling_Face
