Do you have Android 2.1 on your phone? If so you can still send photo's/music files when it says paired but not connected.

If you are still on 1.6 then I would suggest downloading the Bluetooth File Transfer application from the market which will enable your phone to copy and paste files between your device and the remote device via the Edit function on the app.

I have android 2.1 on my phone.

What do you mean with "I can still send photos/music to my PC and vica/versa" ?

The PC companion states : No phone connected

and in the explorer window the phone is not present.

Are you trying to send files from your PC to the phone? Or from the phone to the PC?

I tried both , unfortunately ,neither works.

I downloaded from the Android Market , an application called Bluetooth File Transfer.

After trying 2 minutes to connect I got the message that the computer does not have :

file transfer profile(obex ftp)
  or/and
object push profile (obex opp)

???

Hey there, I am sorry I missed the response to your question previously.

In an effort to resolve your issue I have deleted my X8's bluetooth connection with my Samsung Netbook running XP so that I could note the steps needed to establish the connection again.  In one of the steps it asks you what activities you want and you have to tick a box with Obex in, so I wonder if this is what you are missing.  My netbook is playing me up on the Bluetooth front but I will endeavour to give you the steps...

All Programmes

My Bluetooth Places

Add a device

Make sure the phone has Bluetooth on and is discoverable

Let the pc/laptop scan and then select your X8

You then get the pop up box asking you to Select Activities

Choose Obex (and any others eg Headset etc)

Click Finish/Done

Your X8 should now appear in your Bluetooth Places file on your PC.

I have just sent a photo from my Bluetooth Exchange Folder on my netbook to my X8 and also from my X8 Album to my Netbook.  On the phone it says Paired but not connected (which is why I say you can still send you don't have to be connected).

I have the HP Elitebook 8530 laptop.

Yesterday I downloaded and installed the latest update regarding Bluetooth drivers from the official site.

After that , the process in PC Companion , goes a step further , to "Connecting..." , but after that it fails again.

The message I get from PC Companion is the following :

Ah-ha, I now see what your issue is.  You cannot connect to PC Companion via bluetooth with your phone.  PC Companion may work with older 'dumber' phones with bluetooth but you need to connect with USB cable with the Xperia phones.  PC Companion basically runs the Support section which allows the updates/repairs of software and gives you access to other programmes like Media Go or to start the process of Syncing.

If your laptop has bluetooth then the phone should connect in the ways described above and you can transfer files.

OK,lets forget about PC Companion

I tried it as you described.

The services I was offered to choose were :

"OBEX Object Push"  and  "Voice Gateway"

It installed them and now  I have in My Bluetooth Places my phone as a recognized device

Neither of them has anything to do with file transfer.

I ignored this , selected a picture from my phone and tried to send it via Bluetooth to my laptop (remeber , it scanned , found the laptop but in status paired-not connected)

The message I got immediately was : Connection Failure

So I suppose I can't just ignore the fact that the devices are not connected

Can you send from laptop to phone?  I assume you have been able to transfer from older phones to your laptop?

If you open the Bluetooth File Transfer app you downloaded, will it see your laptop as a remote device?

It's really frustrating because my netbook Bluetooth programme keeps freezing on me so I am struggling to get in to the settings.  I will have another go now and see if I can find any other options for you.
