Morning all,
I have just recieved my X10 mini pro and noticed it has no Android Market place app. I thought that Market was available on UK phones. Can anyone help?
yes but bizarrely you need to go to the market to download stuff
open a browser and go to
that should give you a searchable market
then look for a filemanager/installer
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/fast-installer_jynh.html
will do the job just fine
Then download this to your SD card
http://amip.tools-for.net/android/MarketAccess
now open the file installer, browse to the market access.apk file and install it
Job done (hopefully) do I get a prize?
Which carrier did you get the phone from or was it bought SIM free? My understanding was that UK phones had the market already on their phone.
from what I have been reading a few of the UK minis have come without the market feature. I also read that it was because there are a lot of apps which aren't compatible due to the screen size. Sloppy writing of apps has caused problems. when writing the manifest for any app they need to include what screen resolutions that are compatible - if they don't inclkude the smaller screen then the apps won't be seen on the market. Maybe the suppliers are including their own personal version of the market which only includes apps they have approved.
Anyway, the links/rough guide I posted should get things moving
Thats really interesting. Hmmm, would what you posted above work abroad too? Often get queries from places like Saudi, both on this forum and on AndroidForums about market access. Someone suggested a site called www.getjar.com to get apps but I haven't seen feedback yet on it.
These phones are certainly a learning curve... learning how to get around problems on the most part.
I'm guessing that it wouldn't work as the phone's location would be the stumbling block.
However, using something like http://hidemyass.com/ would probably cicumnavigate that. Rather than downloading the apps direct from the market you could have the link emailed to you - again, there is no reason why your mail server has to be in your current location is there? Mine is in Texas yet I live in the UK.
I think rather than a steep learning curve it is about applying what you use on the computer to your phone - there is generally a way to make it do what you want. Sometimes you have to cheat a bit
