Sony Xperia XA2. After installing the latest update, the smartphone stopped working.

After installing the latest update, the smartphone rebooted and black and white stripes appeared on the screen instead of the desktop. Rebooting didn't help. I can't restore the SOFTWARE using Xperia Companion because the smartphone can't be unlocked and the screen doesn't respond to touch.DSCF5736.JPG

Xperia Companion solved this problem. It took some time to find the way, so I'll leave an instruction (follow it at you own risk, I am an idiot). And, of course, you'll lose all your applications and data.

- charge your phone

- install Companion and connect your phone, so it will install drivers and stuff

- disconnect your phone

- run Recover tool from Companion

- check the option "My Device is not recognized, or SmartWatch something"

- choose device type "Xperia Phone"

- wait until Compation finish some preparations

- connect your device (yes, Companion instruction says otherwise, but I dont know how to turn off bricked phone)

- hold Power+VolUP, device will start reboot process

- after vibro signal hold VolDown

- you'll see green led light

- click Next and Companion will start recovery process

I had to do this twice (may be I have done something wrong on my first attempt)

Now I have software version 50.1.A.13.123 and android 8. Phone says, that he is up to date, I suppose, that this funny update was called back

P.S.  Sony! I needed this instruction 24 hours ago!

My sim card broke after the update.

I am very far from the country of my mobile operator.

Now I have to order the delivery of a SIM card by mail.

What will Sony say on this?

To power-off bricked device I used VolUP + Power for ~6 seconds until it vibrates single time and then waited a bit more until device vibrates 3 times. That way you can follow instructions from Xperia Companion including automatic proceeding.

Anyway thank you for procedure when there is no way to unlock device. Note that in my case Xperia Companion promise to flash 50.1.A.13-123-R7A . And of course that results in completely loose of data. Since my option were to send phone and instructions already were stating that I should remove any lock, I decided that there is nothing else can be done. I think once warranty period will expire, I'll just unlock bootloader and set some recovery like TWRP to never get in this situation again.

Hi, thanks for these instructions. I probably would not have figured it out myself, it's not the easiest, plus no words can express how frustrated I am that Sony would release this update without thorough testing.. So I'm struggling to think straight. Now I need to set my phone up from scratch... YIKES!

I have since read they released the update in Russia a month ago and it caused issues..

That was update 50.2.A.0.342 and the one I tried to update was 50.2.A.0.352
So it looks like the newer version is not good either...

UPDATE: 03.04.2019 - After my phone was reset using Sony Companion, it did an update and I'm now on Android Pie (Version 9.0). It is actually pretty cool! Lucky I backed my stuff up to Google, and actually did a backup of my photos before the update (cause I don't trust updates!)... So a slight positive to come out of it, but still a waste of several hours....

When you exit sleep mode or when an incoming call, the screen brightness is at a minimum. The screen brightness changes randomly. It is impossible to make out who is calling. The performance of the phone has decreased. Especially noticeable on demanding games. To become slow. It works poorly, jerky scrolling in the browser and applications. Not hiding the navigation bar in full screen modes. Return the oreo. Android 9 painted sh1t ..., setting the phone's performance. I will write above if you do not correct

After the upgrade this morning my phone got black screen too. Tested several key combinations and nothing helped. At last I've removed the sim and the device restarted. Then HURRAY the display started working. Android finished the update and then I insterted the sim back. Everything is up and working now.

Same thing happened with me this morning. Thank God the trick with SIM worked, because I was starting to freak out...

I also noticed there are some design changes, but other than that it works well...for now.
