WF-SP700N automatically disconnecting from Pixel 3

Another problem with my WF-SP700N wireless earbuds. This time it's with my new Google Pixel 3.

So they were working fine on my Google Pixel, apart from reading Notifications through Google Assistant of course. I've now upgraded to a Pixel 3 and it's running the latest Android Pie and security updates.

I paired the earbuds using the NFC tag from the charging case and within a few minutes the music stopped playing, there was a pause and a series of beeps from the left earbud, after a few moments they disconnected. The phone no longer showed them as being connected.

I repeated the pairing with NFC, same result. I tried a manual pairing by holding the left earbud button and searching on the phone's Bluetooth. The same disconnection after a few minutes.

I repeated the pairing through the Sony Connect Android App, same issue.

I reset the earbuds. Same issue.

I initialised them. Same issue.

What can I do next? They are now unusable and all I've done is move from the Google Pixel to the Google Pixel 3.

Note that in the phone's Bluetooth devices list, when they are connected they are showing under the Available heading, not the Connected Devices heading.

Another point to note, I was walking at the time, away from devices as the search revealed nothing else other than the WF-SP700N, and I was attempting this multiple times on a return journey of 30 minutes each way. So even if there was other interference, it would have passed at some point on the journey. Also I have used these earbuds, with the Pixel, on this route before without issue.

Thanks Ed.

On a walk so no devices around. Phone in my hand or in outer breast pocket where I always keep my Pixel and it works fine with These Earbuds. Pixel 3 had the Google fabric cafe on it, the one that works with the Pixel stand.

So, should all be okay. However, it just isn't working.

Hi Richardbrunton,

I've just had a look into the support page of the product to see if the Google Pixel phone is listed under the compatible devices, but it isn't.

I'm not quite sure if the phone is compatible with the headphones, they support Bluetooth version 4.1. Could you get in touch with Google and confirm that the phone is compatible with the Bluetooth profiles listed in the Help Guide  here: https://bit.ly/2RlA2Wx?

Cheers,

Hi there.

Thanks for all the responses. I've been back and forth between Sony and Google, and I was surprised that Sony weren't more helpful with a premium product, or understanding of their own product and current devices.

Yes, the compatibility pages for the device suggest only a few rather odd choices of phone they are compatible with, and yet go on to say they are compatible with Google Assistant. Strange they aren't then compatible with Google's Pixel phones.

Google though have come through. They suggested a restart of the phone. I was sceptical at first, working in IT all my life this is the go-to repsonse for when the solution documents the support team are searching come back with nothing.

It worked. Suddenly they are connecting and staying connected, and magically I now have proper notification reading through them. Works superbly well. Except for the fact that you can't have notification reading turned on and use the noise cancelling/ambient sound option at the same time.

Sony need, as usual, to work on their UI/UX and support. However, it's now staying connected.

Thanks all.
