Sony Walkman Noise Cancelling

My Sony Walkman's noise cancelling has stopped working. Its been working for over a year and a half and I have been treating it as it should be treated.

However earlier today the right earphone started to crackle and pop quite a bit. Then the Walkman said that the noise cancelling was "unavailable". I've tried resetting it but it doesn't seem to work. I'd only just put some music on it. What should I do to fix it?

Hello Peter and welcome. 

I would suspect the jack on your NC headphones is the cause of the problem to test this theory are you able to use another set of noise cancelling earphones?

Maybe your local audio specialist can help if you do not own another pair.
