DVD audio for MEX-R1

I have a MEX-R1 car radio/dvd player in my caravan.

According to the user guide I should be able to play MP3s on a DVD on it.

So far, no matter how I have tried creating an MP3 DVD, whenever I load it into the MEX it shows "DISC    READ" and after a while "DISC   ERROR"

The book says the DVD can have up to 100 MP3s .. I have nowhere near approached this number.

Also says they must be 44.1 or 44 khz sampling & 64 to 320 kbps bit rate ..

I have used windows media player to rip to mp3 & to burn as data dvd. can't find a way to see/changed sampling or bit rate.

anyone out there succeeded in burning mp3 dvds that the MEX will play?

Hi disco_kid, can't say I know the answer but normally the sample rate is 44mhz and the default setting for ripping music from Cd's in Windows Media Player is 128kbps. Do you have a similar problem when creating mp3 CD discs?

Hi there

A couple of extra pointers:

  • The discs must be finalised
  • You cannot use DVD+R DL (Dual Layer)
  • Are the files actually MP3 and not say WMA?

Cheers

I admit to not having specifically tested a CD before, but now I have ..

Using CD-R

Dragged and dropped a complete genre (Christmas) set of albums with Windows Media and burned it.

Plays fine in the MEX.

Did exactly the same with a DVD-R

Gives error on the MEX from the initial read.

Have also tried just burning individual MP3s to DVD .. same result.

The DVD's play back OK on the PC (Dell laptop)

Disks are finalised .. can't write to them if I put them back in the PC

Hi disco_kid, ok we know the MP3 are the correct format now see if you are able to play a purchased DVD.

Should have said ..

recognises video DVD as DVD when put in .. says 'DVD read' and appears to work .. not got screen attached, but do get sound.

whereas a DVD burned as data disc with MP3 is seen as 'DISC' ..

must be doing something wrong somewhere.

Hi “disco-kid”

If your DVD is comply at all “compatibilities” present on page 44 of Multi Disc Player MEX-R1 - Operating Instructions (UDF Bridge format (combined UDF and ISO 9660)) the issue is on PC’s DVD Writer device and/or DVD media.

(Anyway you may have less than 1.000 tracks (files)/DVD. Not less than 100!)

Now and for me, the solution could be:

Slow down!!!

-If it’s possible try to “burn” DVD with speeds x1-4 (not “max”)

And/or

-try to clean PC’s Reader/Writer DVD device

-try to “burn” on a different PC and/or Writer (for example external portable device)

-try different DVD media (different model and/or producer)

To be honest, Haven't got a clue what that means .. If WMP doesn't burn to those rules I wouldn't know how to change them.

Those conditions met

Tried at WMP's 'Slow' setting .. first attempts at medium

And/or

-try to clean PC’s Reader/Writer DVD device

Done

-try to “burn” on a different PC and/or Writer (for example external portable device)

Not got any other burner than the one on my Laptop (Dell)

(My old desktop with non-burn DVD can read & play DVDs I have burned.)

-try different DVD media (different model and/or producer)

Tried Maxell & Sony

Thanks to all who have offered advice .. will have to abandon, at least for the moment.

Merry Christmas to all contributors

Hi

For me, the problem should be your DVD reader/writer device (and/or “burning” software). I have many DVD /CD not perfectly “burned”. All PC DVD readers can read them. But Home-DVD, Blu-ray, Car-DVD/CD players NOT.

About Burning Software, you can try with free or trial one (http://www.nero.com/eng/products/nero-burning-rom/free-trial-download.php)

Anyway

Merry Christmas
